if i had one million dollars,i am not sure. it would depend on how well off my best friend was at the time. if he or she did not need the money, i would make a donation in her or his name to  a favorite charity of their choice.
if however my bf needed money, i would work with them to see how much i could share with them to really help out and still have money left to secure my future and take care of my immediate family...a million dollars does not go very far now....

People are funny nowadays. Would your best friend have resentment if you only gave them say $10,000? Would they say,"man they won a million and all I got was $10 grand!" Thats what I would be afraid of. So kudos...good answer!

I would buy them something but I would never simply give them money. You give them money to use wisely. Say you give them $100. What if they spend it on something insulting? It is just better if you purchase something for them yourself. If you are their friend, then you should know what they want.
I would only spend a couple hundred on them. My best friend loves weapons, so I'd get her a few nice knives, maybe a hawk axe, and possibly a machete. For my boyfriend, I would get him a new motorcycle.

I'd give some money to my family and various charities.  I would not understand giving a best friend money unless they needed it for an emergency or I was sharing a portion as gifts to people.  Even in that case I would only gift a small amount.  If the tables were turned I would not expect anything from a friend if they just won a million dollars.  I'm a friend. My job is to be happy for them.

My best friend is my husband so he would share all of it with me - after the IRS got their 50% of course.  grrrrrr  We would pay off our house and be sure we had good medical insurance for the rest of our lives.  Those two things would make us both very happy.

That would really depend a lot on my best friend's financial situation. If possible I would like to maybe pay of his/her mortgage to release them from that burden.

100 dollars for free and if he or she needs for some purpose I can lend another 0.5 million without interest but with assurance of returning it within predefined legal time frame.
