Is the mainstream media in cahoots with the government or is this some distorted conspiracy myth?
Some blogs debate that the mainstream is mainly PR for both the government and big corporations. Do you think that CNN, for example, reports the truth 100% or only the part of the story they want you to see?
i personally believe that the mainstream media is government controlled, tightly. This has come from simply living and observing and writing news myself sometimes. It is a method used to distract folks from certain things.... I certainly believe that what is reported is distorted and manipulated.
Most mainstream media organizations are owned by corporations and corporations work on behalf of their share holders. Once a journalist starts working for that corporation he basically has to tow the line. His integrity is manufactured and not authentic. Real journalists are either working on their degrees or are independent.
Good question! A genuine journalist reports news as it happens and without bias. Should a journalist be under the control of, or unduly influenced by politicians, industrialists, or anyone else with an agenda, then they cease to be objective and become a bias sales person.
In an interesting contrast, try listening to world news for a week and notice the contrast in focus and topic. I'm not sure that answers this particular question but it is a good place to begin looking for "truth" when contemplating matters of media integrity.
I think the media can, and do, slant the news any way they want, and it's not always in the government's favor. Just take FOX for example.
First of all, we all have our faults: if someone agrees with my sense of logic, they have my vote. When someone wants your support and they have the know-how to bend your will, for an instant, you've been had.
Unfortunately, it's all about money. And nobody has more money than the government. It was supposed to be our money, put in the hands of those who worked for us, but reality is, they are now more interested in remaining on good terms with the public than making the tough decisions we pay them for.
One of the best ways to stay on the good side of the public, is to make sure the media only reports on the "good" things you're doing. Take SOPA for instance, no one who only watches mainstream media even knew it was out there until it was almost too late.
I would answer that with a resounding yes! You just need to watch mainstream news closely for a while and pay attention to what they do NOT talk about, or if they finally do, how they do it.
Fact is that all mainstream media boils down to half a handful of very, very, very powerful companies and corporations, and every journalist working for them has to cater to the interests they have or he's soon without a job. As soon as you have a corporation at the top that has close ties to all kinds of other powerful corporations and institutions, independence is extremely hard to maintain.
In my book, mainstream media has lost its credibility long ago, and it does nothing to win it back.
Definitely yes! As a teacher in Ontario, Canada I have witnessed it first hand. The lies that the government has told about teachers are outrageous, and they've done this in order to pass legislation that is against the constitution. One example of a lie is that teachers were asking for a 5% wage increase when in fact they had agreed to a wage freeze. The government is trying to dismantle our union, so they wouldn't accept the collective agreement with the wage freeze included in it. The truth is that the MP's voted against a wage freeze for themselves (and gave themselves this 5% wage increase) and they also voted to increase the bonuses that they receive. This is only one of a multitude of the lies, but try to get the media to report it-it's impossible unless we pay for an $80,000. a minute commercial! This is why I started looking at blogs about the media and lying. I have written letters to every television station in Ontario, as well as the newspaper in London Ontario, to report the lies but nothing comes of it. The last blog that I read started making me wonder: who owns the television stations in Ontario? Every station in Ontario is owned by the same company: Bell Media. I truly believe that the mainstream media is mainly PR for both the government and big corporations. Considering the fact that the mainstream media is a corporation, I believe that they and the government work together hand in hand; in other words, they work for each other. I am very thankful for blogs such as yours. Eventually, everyone will start questioning the validity and reliability of the information that they see and read in the news. Perhaps this is already happening-I know that many of the television stations and other media are not doing well financially. Eventually this may help if they realize that people will not listen to or read about news that is only providing them with lies and/or a biased report of the facts.

IMHO: After the election, maybe 2-3 months down the line, the worst talking heads will be replaced in hopes of gaining some public trust of the delusional media again. I believe they have some of the most incompetent brainwashed reporters that actually believe the fake news they read off a script,...

It’s always worrying when an Internet property you participate in is bought out by another entity, and the acquisition of hubpages is no exception. In the past, I have seen the philosophy and concept of a community I participated in completely changed when it was bought out. The recent...
