Did you ever want to be a teacher before ? Why (not or yes) ?
Do you think being a teacher is an easy profession to do ?
Some of my career plans included working as a teacher. I had to realize that my shortcomings in communication skills at the time and much needed organizational skills made me a poor candidate for teaching. To answer the question about the level of difficulty there is in being a teacher I would like to say that I feel the job is very difficult.
No, I think being a teacher takes a special personality and a lot of talent. As an adult, I never wanted to be a teacher. I enjoyed my own children but am not drawn to other people's children and I don't think I would make a good teacher.
As a young child my mother tells me I wanted to be an English literature teacher. I probably wanted to inspire others to be bookworms like myself, and be able to have heated and deep discussions over what we read.
I've been through a number of other fields of work, but teaching was my passion. Having taught all ages (from 6 year olds to my oldest student at 96), I think I prefer teaching adults - young children require much more energy and an entertaining approach, and I am more analytical.
It's certainly not an easy profession. Most people only consider the class contact time when they think about teachers. They don't think about the time needed outside the classroom - to design a class, prepare the materials, think about how to encourage *all* students to learn the material, assess work, provide feedback, develop their own skills, assess new textbooks, plan curriculums, provide support for other teachers, and much more.
Plust teachers must be able to multi-task within the classroom - teach, assess, encourage, control, watch over all students, and try to guess what their facial expressions (or lack of) really mean.
Being a teacher in this day and age is not easy. They have NO authority. So its tough keeping the kidlets in line. Unlike back in the day where the threat of being sent to the principal's office meant something. Also being creative in their teaching has been jacked because now they have to teach to state tests so schools can get more funding. I have a lot of respect for teachers because you totally have to be dedicated.

With budgets being tight and homeowners feeling the pinch, the simple question comes up...are teachers overpaid? Their pay comes directly from taxes and thus a raise for them is a raise in taxes. Is this justified?

At one point teachers were as respected as bankers. The world has changed - Now, are they as reviled as bankers? What do you think?
