   Since the Catholic church is hierarchical, it must start in the local churches first. Maybe a thousand more years.

   You'll have more chance of the next Pope being black. The Catholic Church is still barbaric in their choices - 1500's style.

   The black Pope is more likely. Black as being a jesuit - not meaning an african.
   
   Saint Malachy said in his Prophecy of the Popes,  "When the White Pope and the Black Pope (Head of the Jesuits or an Anti-Pope) shall die during the same night, then there will dawn upon the Christian nations the Great White Day."
   
   So the black pope will be the last pope.

   I doubt it. Christianity is about 'the father'. It sees ascension (rising up to heaven) and Light as 'holy'. In Cthonic religions such as ancient Greek cults like Elysian mysteries, ancient Welsh to a certain extent, Hatshepsut religious changes when she rebuilt Karnac and founded valley of the kings etc. the opposite is true. In these types of religions light represents total annihilation while darkness represents creation. The earth is the source of life, not the heavens. The earth is where food grows from, and it is dark down there so there is some sort of creative force associated with the feminine. In essence the earth is a womb, dark and creative.
   
   As long as Christianity has these masculine focused worldviews it is difficult to move towards a female Pope. Also I often wonder why certain countries such as Germany are the 'Fatherland' while Russia for instance is 'Mother Russia'. Is it because predominantly defensive walled cities represent the feminine while raiding aggressive cultures that penetrate the walls are masculine?
   
   Another question in this vein would be, "Have we ever had a female Pope?" I vaguely remember my mom's feminist book-club getting really into this topic, and there was a Pope in the past they believed was actually a woman pretending to be a man. Also I would check out the movie Agora, it shows how Hypatia was executed and the dark ages began. She was a wise woman that men turned to for counsel but was executed as a witch because according to Saint Cyril, women are second class citizens.

   It's almost impossible to imagine today. (It's still hard to imagine female Catholic priests.) But considering how far the Church has come today in comparison to centuries ago, I guess that anything is possible. The degree of change necessary to move this into the realm of possibility, however, may lead to the discarding of the very concept of pope before a woman ever gets the job.

   Have we ever had a female priest? No. A female Bishop? No. Cardinal? No.
   How could we ever have a female Pope when none of the above exists? And for all of the feminists marking down all of these responses, you must realize that we are not being sexist, its just a little thing called religious hierarchy.

    A pope or a  cardinal  does not have to be a priest first - yes, traditionally they have been, but the fact is,not being a priest does not preclude anyone from being a cardinal or a pope.
    Pope John Paul 11 seriously considered appointing a couple of female cardinals at some point during his papacy;he didn't ...and some believe he was prevented from doing so by 'the powers within'.
    So to re-iterate,it is not beyond the bounds of possibility at all.I won't hold my breath though,
