Who is your favourite heroine and why?

This may be a person from history, a fictional woman or just someone you know who has all the qualities you perceive to be heroic.

Although they are no longer with us, my mother and grandmother are my heroines. They are two women who did not have it easy but always put their children first in spite of all of the obstacles they faced. They were wonderful strong women who weren't perfect nor did they try to portray themselves as such. This in turn allowed their children to be also become strong individuals in spite of their own imperfections as well. They were intelligent and persevered in a man's world. Things have changed for women for the better due to women like my mother and grandmother. I miss them and am grateful for all they contributed to me, my siblings and the world in general.

My hero is Sojourner Truth who was born a slave. She faced oppression both as a slave and as a woman in an American whose constitution was based on equality and freedom. Imagine being born a slave, freeing yourself and your daughter, and challenging the judicial system and a white slave owner. The remarkable woman dedicated her life to God, to abolition, to women’s rights and religious tolerance.

When I was 14, it was Kira, the heroine in the novel "We the Living " by Ayn Rand, and Dagny Taggart of Atlas Shrugged

It was because they were strong and independent. I did not know it then, but if my mother were in the same setting, she would probably react like they did.

The settings were different, but the sentiments were the same.
