Does food addiction exist? Should it be placed in the same category as drug and alcohol addiction?
Yes. Definitely and yes it should. The difference being that with alcohol, and drugs, we can abstain from it, completely. However food, we need to survive. Therefore have to deal with it every day. It is fact that food addiction exists. Not opinion.
Very interesting question. I would think that are might be in similar categories since they both involve a physical, emotional, and psychological relationship with a substance we ingest. I'm sure there are different characteristics around the different types of addictions, but they must be related. Looking forward to a more informed response!

Food addiction? how about oxygen addiction or water addiction...
do we need drugs or Alcohol to survive? no
do we need food ? YES
what you're asking makes no sense. There is no such thing as food addiction. People gain weight because of many reasons, it all depends on individual human physiology.
Food is a source of energy, some people need it more than others, which doesn’t mean they have to be overweight. I’m almost 6ft tall and weight 80kg. As far as I remember myself, I was always skinny but I do eat a lot. I eat everything, including junk food. I also eat a lot of fat and yet. I’m skinny. Two of my friends are overweight but I know as a fact they don’t eat much. It’s all about individual physiology. Weight can be related to some medical issues or many other things.
It is not a food addiction but rather an addiction to overeating. The feeling of consuming and feeling full or even overfull serves some purpose in the life of the person.
It is an all consuming attempt to fill some empty place inside. I think that it is an addiction but is it on the same level as drug or alcohol I don't know. The compulsive overeating I am familiar with, drugs and alcohol no.
I saw a program once on TV and the psychiatrist said they were all the same disease. I know many people dispute it - but I think those that do have never sat eating a cake with tears running down your face because you can't stop, or continued to eat when you are full because....well you get the picture.
why not. these days you can claim to be addicted to anything and that is suppose to justify your stupidity. how about we say in 10 years, anyone who is addicted to anything gets put on an island by themselves until they are cured, i'll bet a lot of money this addiction b.s. would disappear really quick.
Yes, I am addicted to chocolate! No, they should not be placed in the same category.
