   Why are there so many bad horror movies?
   
   I know you could ask this about any genre, but the horror genre has always seemed to me to be particularly bad. I worked in a video store for 13 years and this was always the hardest genre to make recommendations for. Horror buffs (like me) watch horror movies because they like the genre, but they're often the first people to admit that a lot of the movies they watch are pretty bad. Do you think this genre is worse than others? When you see a horror movie that's particularly bad, what is it about the movie that disappoints you? Do you think these movies often fail for predictable reasons?

   I think it is that often there is a formula to these movies. How often have you been able to predict that a particular character who did the same thing as a character in another horror movie ends up in a gory death?
   
   For me the best horror movies have no blood, gore, zombies or the like.  It used to be seeing all that gore and make-up effects either gave me the giggles or just had me amazed at the technical feat of the make up artist.  That really detracted from the story.
   
   If you watch enough of these films, you can read them very easily. That is good for the director, they can skimp on storyline if you are familiar with the genre.  Horror movies require less thought for the audience, you surrrnder to be scared and the reactions of those in the audience around you can add to that. Watching with friends on video is not going to be the same as the theater experience, meaning that a good theatrical horror movie which draws in the audience doesn't have the same power at home.

   Life holds both good and bad right? So naturally the horror is another way to express the life of bad, as well as showing what could happen within life that they could try to stop, horror is just another entertainment of life and that is how things are, also some people have had trouble with there lives...I mean we all do so we have to express in showing others and hoping that other people would see. So they will not realize that they are not Alone, just like other ways of life its just another way for people to express there feelings.

   Most of the horror movies of today is either someone else's idea, or a remake. The genre isn't horrible but I do think its dying, cuz there isn't anything new. I am a horror movie fanatic, I was raised on them. The movies that they say are based on true stories are either not true stories, or no one can find information on them. Some more horror movies like saw, hostel, and movies that keep you on the edge of your seat like ophan did would be cool.

   Because they're cheaper to produce than sci-fi's or big dramas like Titanic, particularly teen slashers where young actors are only too glad to star in a movie let alone negotiate their earnings..

   Because most scenarios have already been done. It's the characters for the most part that made the classics scary. Jason, Freddie, Mr Myers, and all the other good ones for the most part hard epic backstories that made you feel a connection to them more. Now it's all just special effects races and poor story telling. Or just making something that is similar to something that worked already but without the depth.
        One that I have seen recently that I thought was amazing and is one of my favorite movies still, is "Cloverfield". I usually hate "Monster" movies, but with the way that they cleverly captured the danger, fear, and "Crisis Mode" emotions while adding the realism of having a character shoot it, really made it for me. My hope is that now that we have all these effects and shooting abilities, that we will take advantage of it the way that they did, from a new and clever point of view.
        Shout out to the rob zombie films as well. Great director

   Because they don't give s**t about them! They care just about the money --> low budget with big profit. That's all about horror movies these days.
