   Do You Think Parents Should be Held Responsible For The Actions of Their Children?
   
   Children in the age range of 6 to 12 years!!  Would also be interested in knowing your thoughts on children in the 12 to 18 year range - that is if your answer is going to be different for this age range!! Would an answer to this question depend on certain specific contexts; if so, qualify your answer based on those contexts and situations!!

   Yes I definitely believe that parents should be responsible for the actions of their children. From ages zero to age 18. That is part of being a parent. It is a parents responsibility to raise their children to be a productive part of society. I believe that when children break the law it is a reflection upon the parents because they are the ones who are supposed to be teaching them right from wrong. If two people are not going to be responsible parents they don't have any business having sex and producing children.

   If you have a child, you are taking responsibility to raise that child and teach them to be a responsible, well-behaved member of this world. If you do not want to be responsible, do not have children.

   I think both parents and children should be held accountable for the actions of the child, unless the child is an adult.  Children should not be excused for their poor behavior, but parents should also train their children to behave appropriately. 
   
   A child who tells his teacher to "f---off" should be punished.  However, if he does that, it's obvious that the parent has not taught him this behavior is unacceptable and should never make excuses for him.
   
   A lot depends on the situation, but generally speaking, as I said before, both parties hold a certain amount of responsibility for their actions, regardless of age.

   From 6 to 12 I think the answer is yes, although the child must be accountable too, otherwise what kind of signals are we sending? But from 12 to 18 years old this changes a bit. I think the answer is yes if the parents are backing up the behaviour that leads to it. For instance, my cousin is a teacher and she has a lot of difficult kids, I mean the sort that breaks tables and chairs and even suggests that scissors can do a lot of damage... She expelled one of those kids from class one of these days and the parents showed up the next day threatning her and the likes. These parents should be accountable, personally they should even be thrown in jail alongside the kids. But in other cases the parents try to do their best and just doesn't work out and at this age range is very complicated, some kids are even violent to parents. Very interesting question, Shil.
