   Why aren't there restaurants that will cook up any recipe you bring in?
   
   I think it would be awesome if there was a recipe that I thought looked real good, and I could bring it to a restaurant so that they would cook it for me.

   Restaurants are normally started by people who enjoy cooking and feel that they have some great recipe's to share with other people.  Your concept is a good concept in theory, but this would require you to bring your own groceries because it would be impossible to stock all of the different ingredients it would take to follow a lot of different recipe's.
   
   The closest thing to what you are mentioning would be a steak house in San Diego where you can grill your own steaks on the grill.  However, the steak house is stocking the beef.  You choose from their list on the menu, the grill your own steak.
   
   Hibachi grill restaurants are really neat too-- they allow you to grill your own food, but once again- the restaurants that I have been to already have their own recipes and menu.  You select the items you want to grill and then you can grill your own food at your own table.

   The cost, and wastage from ingredients they would have to stock and then dispose of when past there sell by date, would be astronomical

   I like your question. That would be an awesome thing, to find a recipe we want to eat, but don't know how to make, or are too lazy to make it ourselves. Sounds great!

   Clearly you have never run a busy restaurant, as though this may appeal to many, it would actually be a total pain for the chef, unless he is carrying an extensive and well stocked inventory.  Good restaurants are like any other businesses, although the need and dependence on preparation and planning is far more real, as you are generally operating after hours and thus don't have the ability to restock during that period.  Believe me, that point alone is enough to say No.
   Obviously, it would also depend on the actual recipe.. I doubt that lamb chops would go down well in a Vegan kitchen and so on.  It can be done, I'm sure, but in the food industry, what's often a matter of and referred to as 'bums on seats' takes priority. ie: The planned day's menu always takes precedence over an unplanned individual serving.  It's a tough job trying t please people who often have little appreciation of what is involved in the industry.  Mum's are usually into working that way, but once again... give them the ability to plan the meal and a genuine thanks for the effort!
