How many hubbers dream of being a stay at home parent?
Just trying to see how many hubbers have this dream in common.
I currently am a stay at home parent, but that is simply because it would cost us more for child care than what I would bring home in a week if I were working. I am , however, striving to bring in enough money to be able to do stuff with my children through the days. I would love to be able to have enough money so that we weren't strapped to pay our bills all the time. My dream is to be able to be a stay at home mom without the stress of not having enough money to be sure that the bills are paid on time. It would also be nice to be able to put the kid in activities that they would enjoy rather than always having to tell them that we don't have enough money for them to do it.
I envy that you are a stay at home parent. I am fortunate to have enough money to not feel strapped and I am able to allow the kids to do a lot. I feel though that the time I could give them would be so much better than the things I have given them.
I'm still trying to keep the hope alive that I can work part-time and be a mother. Staying home all day, even with a child, I think I would go insane from boredom. I would need three children to give me enough to do. Otherwise, I think that's what grandparents are for until the child can be homeschooled.
Being a grandparent is very nice! You keep Hubbin and that should keep you from being bored. All the while maybe you will be granted with three beautiful children. Makes me tired thinking about it. Hoping it all works out for you. Best of Luck!
I am not a parent, but working from home is definitely a dream of mine!
Jennzie, we share the same dream! Only I have two children. I tried picking up some college courses and it wasn't until then that I realized I enjoyed writing. So heres to us, you never know what will come our way with all this writing! Good Luck!
I am a stay at home mom, but would like to contribute enough to the income through various avenues to help my husband not have to work as hard. With 5 kids it wouldn't be economical for me to work either, that and the fact that we homeschool. My work is here.
So happy for you and the fact that you are able to homeschool. All that said, you do work, you just don't get paid. I wish you the best on the hunt for your various avenues. I am sure you will be even more successful than what you already are.
I am currently a work-at-home mother, and have been self-employed since my first child was 18 months old. All I can say is...anyone who thinks they'd be bored is welcome to come watch my kids for a while, I could use a moment to breathe, or at least go to the bathroom in peace . Now that the third child is due any day (estimated due date is in three days) and my husband and I are both at home, we're still both running like crazy from about 7:00 a.m. until around 11:00 p.m. and there's always plenty left to do.
That said, though it's a LOT more work for me to be self-employed and stay at home with the kids, I wouldn't have it any other way. I decided to head down the freelancing path when something finally clicked in my head after I missed my son's first steps, and I missed his first word. The people at the daycare couldn't even remember what the word was, so I'll never know. Then and there, I was overwhelmed with the desire to raise my own kids instead of paying someone else to do it while I worked for an employer. That was five years ago, and I've never looked back. At first I barely made enough with 80-hour weeks to replace my old Wal-Mart paycheck, but now I support our family of five and have the tools to take the business much further. I believe that anyone with the desire and a compelling enough reason, as well as a few core skills, can find a way to stay home for their kids.

Who should be the stay-at-home parent? Mother or father? And why?A good (girl) friend of mine has 2 very young children has just returned to work full-time whilst the children's father stays at home to care for them. As she earns a higher salary I can see it makes sense. It was going well until a...

Should moms stay home with their kids? I think they should . It's better for the family in my opinion. At least until they are in school full time. The American family is falling apart, and mothers working and dumping kids off in daycare is part of the problem. Absentee dads is also a huge problem...

When should the line be drawn for a non-custodial parent who refuses to pay child support? Is there a set amount before something is done?
