   Reading comprehension. Do you think it is the fact why students fail exams?
   
   I'm searching about this topic and I'm reaching the conclusion that students usually fail exams due to a misunderstanding that started at primary school, what do you think?

   Respectfully, I'd have to disagree.
   
   I think this is one causative factor, but the question seems to imply that this is the primary or only reason, and I jut don't think that this is the case

      Thanks for answering Cathering. I'm searching about this topic speciafically, Reading Comprehension as the cause. Can you add any more factors as regards this so as to polish my investigation? What is your opinion? I really appreciate your answer.

      Other contributing factors can include not knowing how to study, not knowiing how to take tests, test anxiety, lack of adequate study environment, generalized stress, reading speed and lack of focus.
      And that doesn't even get into things like ADHD.

   I can tell you flat out that kids fail in general because they
   haven't been trained properly from day one. It's that simple!

      sometimes its other things though, like not having a safe place to study or sleep; or clinical depression

   According to some observations and informal research I have been doing, this is only one among many other factors.
   For example, mind dispersion is something I realize in many students, as a direct consequence of watching TV and playing video games.
   But also misunderstanding can have many sources. Lack of a extensive vocabulary, lack of concentration (dispersion), absence of reading habits or reading schemes based only on short "marketed" phrases and, in a high number, simply lack of motivation. A behavioral approach is not enough, as it is a demand the consideration of cognitive factors.
   There are lots of good studies done at several Universities, but they remain confined to specialists. I think it is an urgent requirement of education to go into these studies and make a scientific approach to the problem of learning and teaching at the school, at the student, at the teacher.
   Let me ask a simple question: Is it teaching nowadays a matter of transfer of knowledge or just a way to make students proficients in answering exams?
   I have some experience in this theme, from kindergarten to college, and I want to make myself available to you if you feel it could be helpful in your research.

      I'd say that teaching today is both transfering knowledge and learning to answer exams.
      And if you're lucky, you get a teacher who also teaches you how to think....

      Thanks for all the comments. They help me a lot! I think teaching is a difficukt task and much more if students fail at comprehension. We noticed at university level they cannot fill in a simple questionnaire just due to lack of reading comprehension
