The greatest Weakness interview question: What answer do you give for this question?

You are supposed to name a negative and turn it into a positive.  Something like I like to challenge myself, so in the past I have taken on additional responsibilities when I probably should have declined.  Or something that shows that you recognize your weakness and you are trying to work on bettering yourself in that area.

Whatever you do, don't say you're a perfectionist.  As a interviewer that does several interviews per week for the last 5 years, I have heard that answer hundreds of times!  They might as well answer, "I'm lazy."

I agree with michiganman567 in that you should be honest and confess a non-fatal weakness.  Non-fatal, meaning, not a weakness that will cost you the job.  "I steal things."  That would be bad.  But it should be a true weakness.

"I have a disability. You can't discriminate against me. My disability is that I am lazy."

I  just get so caught up in doing my work, I often stay late and  inconvenience those who must close up.

This has been the undoing of my professional career, if i ever had one. It is always about trying to maintain the right balance by saying something, which is not negative, and then turning it into an advantage by fabricating a story around it. Isn't it funny? In the end, we are not talking about our weakness but strength. It is all stupid and foolish.

you could tell them you are a workaholic.  That might go down well.

I guess it's all about how you "couch", get so absorbed in my work that I end up spending a lot of time on it. workaholism can also suggest poor work-life balance, so I might be careful with that one. Thanks for your comments:-)
