What is the ideal age for retirement 60, 65 or beyond that?
Most people do retire when they are 65, while some still work beyond that age. In some companies here in the US which are regulated by the government there is mandatory age of retirement. If there is no mandatory retirement, do you see yourself working after you reach 65? Why or why not?
After the current recession, it is my belief that many current baby boomers cannot afford to retire. Many of our retirement funds dried up or were scammed away.
I personally retired this year only because I am able to make passive income from the internet and other sources.
I work now for pleasure and only part time. I could never imagine a time when I would not work in one capacity or another.
Retire whenever you can and whenever it feels right. Personally, I'm going to work as long as I can. Being active and having mental stimulation is essential to your personal well-being. I'd love to be working when I'm 100, because that'll mean I'm still alive.
I worked till 80, collecting SS at age 70. For everyone it's an individual difference and preference, based on health, family interests and needs as well as work related considerations. By asking each person to describe their own ideal retirement age, you've done the right thing. Each has his or her own "right" answer. A good second question is, "if you're unemployed, when do you think you'll 'retire'? David Russell
My original plan was to retire at 65 or 66, depending on my health. The conditions at my office change and I was going to leave at 62 and take the retiree's insurance. The company left me go at 59 and a half and with one year of COBRA coverage, denying me the retiree insurance that I could had used until Medicare. Could not convert to private policy because the Group Plan did not write private policies in my state. My retire at 62 plan also called for me to do "something else" for a few years.
Those "something else" jobs do not exist. I have a solid 38 year work history and I cannot get hired for anything. Its the age factor, but no one admits that.
