   Just how much does physical attractiveness play a  role in first impressions/dating someone?
   
   To the guys especially..would you all rule out someone just because of their appearance? Or do inner qualities play a bigger role?

   Physcial attraction is what prompts a man to approach a woman. He has no way of getting to know her "inner qualities" until after he approaches her.
   Men and women reject each other in different ways. A woman rejects a man (directly) when he approaches her. A man rejects a woman (indirectly) by NOT approaching her. Both ways can hurt if you are interested in that person.
   It's been said that men fall in love with their eyes and women fall in love with their ears. However with age comes wisdom. Men learn that everything that glitters is not gold and women learn actions speak louder than words. Welcome to Hubpages Vieenrose!

      I love that last line! I never thought of it that way..basically i was just trying to get some insight as to  what "prompts a man to approach a woman". Finding out how big of a role attractiveness is =part of it.I guess i titled my question wrong..

      Vieenrose, the pure answer to your question is a man approaches women he is attracted to. However one must keep in mind that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Other key elimiments are attitude and mannerisms.  Not all men want the same type.

   As they say, "One never gets a second chance at a first impression."
   
   This is to say that if one looks like they just invested the past hour dumpster diving, then the first impression is probably one of disgust.
   
   You must understand that men are guided by eye-sight. We are visually and spatially engineered. Men mine for gold, dive for pearls, and dig for diamonds. Women know this about men, therefore they make themselves look as appealing as possible.
   
   The problem that men run into, is that not everything they see is real and many first impressions are misguided.
   
   The real issue, in my mind, and something women should think about, is what kind of man they want to attract. I would suggest if you want to attract a good, decent man, dress modestly and don't over do the make-up. Most good men are not attracted to glitter...they are attracted to modesty, sensibility, and things of the soul.

      That's so true. From Past experience, men who only go for a specific type (trashy girls) usually are looking for only thing..

   To honest when you meet someone you don't really know them at first, so your drawn by their appearance, so appearance is important.

   I think physical attractiveness play a huge role. Sometimes people try to downplay the importance of it. .Sometimes if you meet someone for the first time, most likely they are judging how you look, how you dress etc and making conclusions etc. I am not a guy but, most guys prefer girls who fit their standards of beauty. Thats just how it goes.

   Attractiveness comes in different shapes and sizes. Confidence and humor truly go a long way toward making someone who is not traditionally beautiful seem very attractive. Having said that, everyone likes a pretty face...it's natural...but good looks without brains or a good heart get old pretty fast, in my book.
