I am out here in Wiamea.  I met one hubber from around the same area and I am wondering if there are others out this way too.  Maybe we can meet up somewhere or something.

    Need friends out here. big_smile

Yeah so far the people are really nice and helpful.  The weather is crazy because it changes at the drop of a hat.

The land is really diverse and beautiful.  I went over to the Hilo side of the Island a couple days ago and wow! I would live over on that side if I could but the town in Hilo is sorta run down and so far from everything.

Other than that, yeah it is an amazing place so far.  The buses are free too.  They have farmers markets all over the place and garage sales as opposed to thrift or third hand stores.

People hitchhike into town, you see kids walking down the road and people just scoop them up and drop them off in the town etc.  I haven't seen much by way of traditional island stuff but I am sure I will come across it as I get to know the island a little better.

Oh, and they play a lot of jawiian music... Jamaican/Hawaiian music and country music is big out here. It makes me miss good ole rock and roll a bit.

It's real slow here too.  There is two roads (highways) that lead in and out of town and the speed limit is 55mph and it takes at least an hour to get anywhere besides the little town in Wiamea.

The beaches are really sweet.  I went to Puako (something like that) beach yesterday and the water was like saline solution but salty and you can swim with the fish.  The sun is super potent though!

My wife and I really liked Hapuna beach, but it sounds like you will get to try them all since you moved there.

My wife really wanted to move to the Big Island after we first visited, but she couldn't figure out how to make it work financially.

I hope that you received a salary adjustments for the cost of living, or is it much cheaper where you are with the farmers markets etc?.

You are so lucky!  What took you to such a lovely place?

We vacationed in Maui for 11 days during the winter school break and it was divine!!!!  I'd move there in a heartbeat smile

My picture was taken on the road to Hana - the lush green backgrounds!

You are in my favorite place! I've traveled a lot to different countries but my heart is always in Hawaii smile I try to get there at least once every few years. I just love it there because it's so laid back and relaxing.
