What's the best free downloadable photo editor?

I've heard of GIMP and some others. What is your favorite and why? Features? Ease of use?

I don't have much experience with this, as I rarely use photo editing software, but I have used GIMP, so I would recommend that. It works very well (although difficult for those new to photo editing) and seems to be one of the best available. I have not heard of too many others that keep up with GIMP very well.

Gimp. It's like Photoshop for people without the money. It is confusing to use at first (like Photoshop), but there are lots of tutorials for it online.

I also like GIMP a lot. It has a ton of features including layers, masks and tons of plugins. GIMP is very powerful, but it does take a little while to learn it.

I'm going to say gimp also. For simple color corrections and cropping it's not that hard to learn. It's a lot like photoshop. it has similar tools. The reason people find it hard to learn is that it does have so many features,

Personally I use GIMP and PhotoFiltre - depends on what exactly I want to do with the pictures. PhotoFiltre is pretty basic - but for minor edits and such it's pretty easy to learn.

For free I guess it would have to be Gimp, but I don’t like it much.
My fav (for a price) would be Pixelmator.

paint.net is the program I prefer. It is almost the same as photoshop, except some of the tools being different.

I like this program because it is easy to use. I have tried gimp on a linux computer but i didn't really like it so if you are running windows I would recommend paint.net

Andrea, I actually downloaded gimp but couldn't figure out how to use it! I want something that is very easy, at least starting out. I may try paint.net. thanks!
