What is a good place to stay in New York for a week?
cheap and in a good area, for two friends?
There is nothing cheap in New York but the best place to stay depends on what you want to do. I would recommend the city first and foremost. There is an endless amount of things you would be able to do.
Air B&B or look on Craigslist to stay with people who have an extra room..that's the cheapest you will find. If you are looking for a decent cheap hotel you might try the Belle Clair on 77th and Broadway.
Thank you for your answer. BelleClair would be way too over what they can afford. They are 2 young back-packers that would be interested in hostel-type or dorm-type places to night. Can those be found in decent places?
Yes there are hostels in the city..just google it. There was one in the uws near where I used to live, near Columbia University.
I recommend finding a hotel near NYC Chinatown in Manhattan. Food is cheaper at Ctown and the area is near a lot of different subway lines. I wrote a hub about it http://edwin-clark.hubpages.com/hub/Vis … ival-Guide its possible to feed a family of four for $20 to $30.
One hotel in Ctown that I recommend is Hotel Mulberry http://edwin-clark.hubpages.com/hub/Hot … NYC-Review which is right next to Mott Street, Canal Street and a block away from Little Italy. And you can walking to 9/11 Memorial and even South Street Seaport, Brooklyn Bridge and ferry boat piers to Statue of Liberty. Plus the hotel is near many train lines so you can further explore uptown Manhattan. A room at the hotel cost about $250. In NYC that's a good price considering its a brand new hotel with big rooms.
Unless you have a need to stay in Manhattan every day and night, stay outside the city and save money at hotels in Brooklyn, Queens, etal. Subway into the city and use buses & subways to get around. Manhattan Hotels and Parking are extremely expensive with all kinds of parking restrictions. The money you save will allow you to eat at the city's best restaurants, see shows (matinees are smart buys), even concerts and sports events are near subway trains. Brooklyn has a beautiful park, horse back riding, zoo and Botanical Garden. Bronx has a zoo unique in the way animals run free. Check all the boroughs; they all have things worth seeing. The museums are a must. Send for free TV Show tickets months before your trip and lay out itineraries full of what New York has to offer that you want to see, it's one of the world's great cities. Thank you for your answer. My nephews who are going to visit NYC are 2 young back-packers that would be interested in hostel-type or dorm-type places to night. Can those be found in decent places?
I haven't been to NYC for years, but ask the question to Google for uptodate info. David

My wife and I have...
