What kind of sympathy do you feel for people who knowingly live in disaster-prone areas?
No, we will not escape tornadoes, hurricanes, and earthquakes. But what about people who live in areas where it is simply inadvisable, like wildfire and flood zones. I have lived beneath an active volcano, fearful of its eruption. Where is the line drawn?
Flood zones, I have no pitty for. Volcano, you should know better! Hurricanes, those people can handle. Earthquakes, I've never been in one and cannot give a true opinion. The lines should be drawn with the aid of analyzing the situation and the facts.
I took a job in the volcano zone. It has been inactive for a long time but is still an active volcano. The people love their mountain but have internal concerns. Quakes are creepy. I couldn't live where major quakes occur.
My teacher from last year used to work on a volcano that was supposed to be inactive. She was on the volcano getting readings when it blew in New Zealand. She loves them but would never live by one. I agree with your view on earthquakes.
