What does it mean to "embed" a video?

What does it mean to embed a video rather than just copy and paste the link into the video capsule of your hub? Do you also copy the code to embed the video into the video capsule or somewhere else? And what is the difference? Thanks.

Embedding a video means to place or copy the video from its original website onto a different site using an html code or "embed code." To embed the video, copy the embed code from the original video site and paste the code into the site where you'd like the video to appear. Without embedding it? The video may appear, But not play?

No, I have never embedded one. I always copy and paste. it plays with no problem. So I don't know what the difference is or if there is an advantage to one over the other.

To "embed" a video means the video remains on its original host (where the file remains), but you are adding some code on YOUR website that allows it to be played while embedded on YOUR page.

This is in contrast to "linking", where you go to a different page that embeds the video.

So what is the difference? What is better to do? Does it matter at all which way you choose?

Embedding allows people to play it on your site.  The video shows up and you click to play.  Is that right?

The main difference between linking and embedding is where the data are stored and how they are updated after they where linked or embedded.

Your file links to a source file: the data are stored in the source file and updated there, showing the updates in your source file.
Your file embeds a source file: the data are now stored in your file -- without a connection to the original source file.

Isn't it easier to download the video via some converter (like https://2conv.com/en51/ for example) and to post it in your blog? I suppose, it'll look better and your visitors will not be distracted by the youtube ads.
