What is the best place/city/country to visit in Europe and why?

Not that I'm going to visit Europe soon, but I definitely want to visit there at some point. Curious to know where are good places to go in Europe, why, and what it's like there in those places in terms of people and environment.

I would love to visit prague. Prague's historical districts is like stepping into a fairy tale. The stunning gothic architecture of the Charles Bridge and Prague Castle appeal to visitors of all ages. Plus, this city's love of music, local lagers, and quaint cafes is contagious. You'll also appreciate Prague's affordability as hotels and attractions cost relatively little to enjoy.

Sounds like a beautiful and engaging place to visit. I do love the beauty of great architecture and the various social settings you mention. Affordability is also a plus, for sure.

Paris and Rome are probably the ones that spring to mind and although lots to see they are heavily congested with traffic and walking around can be very noisy and unpleasant.
I would plump for Amsterdam, a very walkable city, skinny canal side streets are not wide enough for cars, and the architecture is stunning.
I would however plump for Edinburgh - the city is a UNESCO world heritage site the capital city of Scotland, a stunningly elegant city with some of the best preserved Georgian architecture in Europe. Many dwellings in the old town have been in constant habitation since the 16th century and wandering down the cobbled streets you are transported to a time many centuries past.
But then I am biased as it is my home.

Ediburgh sounds fascinating, and this has always been a fascinating aspect of other countries; the age of the buldings. Here in the US, you might find a building a couple hundred years old, and still not spectacular. Amsterdam also sounds inviting.

Visit places that have been locked away during communism in Eastern Europe, now they are all historically-acurate rebuilt and renovated. It feels like you step in the Europe of the 18th century...visit Spish and you will be amazed, it is a secret tourists don't about, it is cheap, it is undiscovered, it is beautiful....

That question is a bit too general, and there could be 30 valid answers. Still, my vote would go to Venice, as it's totally unique and full of history, especially if you visit the other islands in the lagoon. Hotels are expensive, but you can do a lot of exploring by walking and taking waterbus trips. Not the best place in Italy for food, but still good.

London, but then I am biased as it's where I am from.

I have written a hub on top 50 places to visit in London - it may give you a bit of an idea.

Another great city is Barcelona - fabulous climate, food, and city life.  You get a bit of everything.
Southern Spain is also very beautiful - Andalucia region, head west of Marbella and keep going until you come to Tarifa, drive onto Cadiz it's beautiful
Madrid, Grenada and Ronda all great to visit too.

Rome, Italy is a great place to go and visit because of its history and beautiful landmarks.  The local people are very nice and inviting ... I had a very pleasant and educational experience while visiting over there.
