Why are introverts so underestimated in this society?

That's one of the biggest mistake society ever commits,  ignore those on the backgrounds. They are so underestimated, because introverts are less confident to show off whatever talents they have... which I believe most introverts are more gifted of.  Generally, those who are given chance are mostly those who love to advance to be recognized, but real talents are often the introverts.  I'm just glad that nowadays, the system of education have improved to give attention to all the intelligences of an individual learner... explore these talents and groom them for the future.

I like your answer but I disagree about introversion being equated with low confidence in one's knowledge.  More reserved with knowledge is probably more accurate, since this type of person likely doesn't think the answer is a big deal.

I don't know but it really helps my goal. I enjoy being underestimated then save the day with my education and knowledge. It is always fun for me.

Good for you, SURPRISE THEM.  It is soooo good to bedazzle the more boisterous so-called big mouth know it alls with our introverted, fierce intelligence!    Knock them for a loop each time!  We introverts can GET away with things with OUR behavior!

Introverts can get away with almost anything if we use our brains and remain in hidding until the appropriate time tongue

Maybe also it is because those who reach the higher positions of those who do the estimating are likely Extraverts. smile

Imaging two small islands with no way of contacting the outside world.  One island is populated by a group of introverted shipwrecked castaways, and the other with extroverted castaways.  Which mini society do you think will run more smoothly and have a better chance of surviving until help arrives? The one where everyone is too fixated on their inner thought processes, or the one where people are hyper aware of those around them?

Introverted people make great scientists and artists, but society could not sustain itself on a population of such inwardly focused people. Civilization as we know it needs extroverts to survive.  It needs people who want to connect and engage with large numbers of other people. They're the glue that holds everything together.

The introvert versus extrovert types are bit polarized, I mean, constructed. No one is ever really 100% introvert or extrovert. There are areas of life and activity in which some would be more introverted, others extroverted.

Introverts hardly take an active role in social interactions. They seemed to live like entities outside the community. If you are a social being you must be a part of it, but not like an alien. It's not the society that underestimated an introvert one, rather they themselves make them deserted so much as to making it impossible to feel their presence.

By the way I am probably among those whom society tag as introvert.

If you've stayed away from your group's social life, try to make up for it. Have a party. Offer, don't try to have others bring.

It happens sometimes that one stays to oneself. The reason can be a strong interest, even passion. Let know you care.
