Do you form your belief system from other people's ideas or from your own reasoning and evaluation?

The video 'Esoteric Agendas' makes the following statement: "... 87% of the population formulate their belief structure according to other people's ideas. Only 13% formulate their beliefs on logic and evaluation."

Neither of these is my primary method. My primary method is stated beautifully by Peace Pilgrim: "There are two ways to know the truth: Listen to your heart, or hear something from outside, and check if it is true for your in your heart."

My second method is, living as true as I know, I watch the results of what I do. This is using awareness of karma. Christ talked about this as "by their fruits will you know them," and it was Gandhi's core practice of "Satyagraha," grasping the truth, and the reason that his autobiography was titled, "my experiments with truth."

My third-order standard is my own logic and reason.

My fourth-order standard is solidly established ideas from others, whether spiritual or scientific. I do my best to make sure that my views do not contradict society's *best* understandings of who we are and how things work.

As for other people's ideas, in general, I do not give them any significant influence. I hold that most of the ideas floating around the world are unhealthy, and that's why human society is the way it is.

My answer is actually a question. How would the producers of this movie know for certain that 87% get their beliefs from others? I don't think most people would even admit to this... this however is my own opinion and based on my own observation.

The web site quoted the movie with the disclaimer, "If this is really so...." Albert Einstein said, "Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are even inca

Growing up Mom sent me to catholic church and I mumbled man made prayers ,was nice to old ladies and tried to follow their teaching, trouble was they kept changing the rules to suit themselves...In My Late teens I began to question it all and asked God if he was there to show himself...he did by personal Revelation and he did not ask me to send him a love offering as he had already sent me his Son for free all he wanted was my heart....The only reason I believe this is because of personal revelation and not a belief system or some Greek mythology, because after all that’s what most of the world’s religions are nice mythology , empires built on sand.

We were taught from early childhood to use reason and logic combined with evidence that can be reliably proven in evaluating any concept before we commit it to belief.
