What kind of tree is a real christmas tree? Fir, Pine, etc...
Just curious, what kind of tree a real christmas tree is. Wouldn't mind trying to grow some on our property.
We like blue spruce. Any of them make good Christmas trees balsam or pine. We once got a swamp spruce it was awful smelled like cat pee.
After doing a little research as far as holding it's needles, keeping it's firmness, pleasant smell, just the all around best tree seems to be the Balsam fir.
Any kind of tree is a Christmas tree here in our place as long as it has gorgeous lights and decorations which expresses how festive we are in commemoration of our Savior's birth.
Over here in the UK, it tends to be the Norway Spruce, but I have been known to use a small Alberta Spruce on a sideboard.
I personally have always loved the Douglas Fir for Christmas trees. They are thick and have shorter needles and the most wonderful smell.
I love the look of the Frasier (or Fraser) trees. The needles tend to be upright and hold ornaments well, and the fresh ones have a really nice scent.
Any kind you want. As a child, we would go to the woods and cut a cedar tree for our Christmas tree. However, cedars are prized for their beautiful rot- and insect-resistant wood, so they are not as prevalent as they used to be. Replanted pines are replacing them in the South. Also, trees not native to our state are being brought in and sold as Christmas trees. They are lovely trees and people are buying them at Christmas markets today. I think people are now picking trees for their beauty and not worrying what kind they are.
