   Not doing any research before answering and just going off what I know I believe that would go to the inventors and business owners (entrepreneurs). Look at Bill Gates for example. Created a business around an idea and now he's the richest man alive. Or look at Mark Zuckerberg, created Facebook and now he's a billionaire at like 20-something.
   
   In all seriousness though the highest paying "jobs" are the doctors. Plastic surgeons make ridiculous amounts of money. My God-Father is a plastic surgeon and he made over a million dollars on average each year. Go to the medical field if you want a lot of money each year (guaranteed money at least).

   Salaried jobs?--CEOs or VPs in fortune-level companies
   Gig or contract jobs?--Entertainment/show business professionals; top-rated athletes, actors, musicians, directors, radio hosts, coaches, etc.
   Self-employed?--successful entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, stock/real estate speculators

   Distinguish between salaried job/self-employed/business owner/performer.
   
   Highest paid Salaried job: CEO
   Highest paid occupation: entrepreneur (business owner with employees--Gates, Zuckerberg, Branson); (these people have other people working for them
   
   Glamour jobs that 1/1,000,000 people get : movie star, sports star
   Everything else is somewhere in the middle. Some professions pay more than others.
   Best paying 6 figure+ jobs:  Doctor, lawyer, accountant, high level computer programmer (go work for Google), engineer, sales related jobs.
