How do taxes on Hubpages work?
This may have already been answered but, after searching for a while, I haven't found the exact answer that I'm looking for. Maybe because my question is kind of lame?
Anyway, if, one day, I happen to make lots of money with Hubpages somehow, would I have to fill out tax forms for Adsense, Amazon, Hubpages and eBay separately? Or are they clumped together in a Hubpages form? How does that work?
You're going to need to file all the income as 1099 income, and you'll need to fill out a W-9 for each company. And I think youll be filling out the W-9s separately as those are all individual ad programs so I don't think hubpages can distribute those tax sheets for them
1099 income gets taxed pretty heavily compared to normal income btw so be sure to save a good chunk of it. Also keep track of all the income in spreadsheets itll help when tax time comes around
Not a lame question, actually a very good one. Each program tracks your earnings and pays them separately, so you should have your tax information on file with each. As part of the sign up, each one will ask for a social security number and your personal information for tax purposes. If you earn enough money in a year, they will send you a 1099 either late January or early February that shows what earnings were paid to you. You'll use that to report your income to the tax authority.
The reporting threshold depends on the company. For instance Ebay reports to the IRS once you have reached $20,000 in receipts. Amazon files at $600. So check the sites to determine what their rules are.
That being said, you are legally required to report all income. So if you only receive $100 in a year, you may not receive a 1099, but you still have to report that income on your return. If you don't, and get audited, you could face penalties and interest on the unreported amounts.
This is very useful. Thanks for the great information!
Taxes on hubpages work the same way that taxes in your place of residence work. Your earnings from hubpages are just another source of income that you must declare with your local tax authority. It really is that simple. Just make sure you track it, put aside money for taxes, and then get an accountant to help you finalize everything at the end of the year.

Only half of all Americans are paying their taxes because they are still employed. The unemployment rate isn't going down any time soon as much as the media wants to spin it so it looks like the taxpayer half will slowly reduce their numbers as Obama proposes more ways to spend money in the...
