   Do you feel that banning guns would solve the problems in the world ?
   
   There has been a lot of killings in the world with guns, automobiles, knives, drugs, chemicals, plants, clubs, and sporting events.  Do you feel that the instruments are the cause or is it the mentality of the people ?  What do you suppose would be the answers, the reasoning and the solutions?

   Banning guns would not remotely solve the problems. All I can see it doing is making things worse because banning guns only means that the people following the laws will be without guns. The people who want to use them for evil will still find a way to get their hands on them and use them to hurt and kill others, regardless of laws. It will disarm the good people and leave the bad ones with even more power. At best, it will make it a bit harder for the bad ones to get those guns, but they will still get their hands on them.
   The weapons themselves are not the cause of anything, merely the tools used for evil ends. It's the mentality of the people who use them that determines what happens with the tools. In the same pair of hands a gun or knife can be as dangerous or as mundane as a pillow. Would you ban pillows because people can be smothered to death with them?

   The majority of firearms are designed for one thing only: to kill human beings.   It's true that a few guns are specifically designed for hunting: shotguns, for example, Also big game guns such as the 425 Westley Richards Elephant gun.   However, the amount of firearms used for hunting would hardly represent more an a few percentage points of those actually manufactured.
   
   It's all very well to say that it is the mentality of the people involved with guns which causes the problem but take away the guns, what have they got left?  Well, clubs, axes, knives et cetera.   How many mentally disturbed people who wanted to kill as many other people as they could, would run into a school or univeristy campus with only a kitchen knife in their hands?
   
   The point is, if there were no guns, and no artilliery, tanks or warplanes we'd be back to bows and arrows before you could say  "Oops! I'm outa bullets."
   
   Take a leaf from places like the UK where most people don't own a gun.   America has more people killed with guns in a week than the UK in a year.  That has to tell you something....

   There are no "answers". If someone has decided to kill people and they are also willing to die as well there is nothing that can be done to prevent it unless authorities catch them during an undercover sting.
   Banning guns will probably create a new "black market" for gangsters to make money. If  enough states keep making marijuana legal they are going to need another revenue stream. Anyone with bad intentions could care less about the law.
   Ask anyone who has ever been beaten or hurt (after) a "restraining order" was issued. Most people don't kill simply because it's against the law but rather because it is against their (morals). A person without morals views laws as pieces of paper.
   America was born out of violence and will forever be a violent country. A large amount of it's citizens will never trust the government enough to give up their guns.

   Mentality of the people. http://lburmaster.hubpages.com/hub/The- … -Ownership In the hub there are two examples of gun control, one city with the strictest gun laws in America and the other encouraging their citizens to have one gun in each house for protection which is known better as "Gun Town USA". It's a little insane how much a perspective of guns can change a town. One with fear, the other with respect and protection.

   Drugs are illegal and yet people find them and abuse them. I think guns will be much the same if outlawed even worldwide.  Those whose intent is criminal activity will always find a way to possess the things that are banned.

   Anyone bent on killing, destruction, evil -- does not act by/to/within the law no matter what the law is. Officers of the law will tell you that door and window locks are for honest people because they don't make a damn to criminals. A criminal or evil mentality -- or a deranged mind -- does not act out by any rules as proven by the horrible tragedy in Connecticut. Quite often, the evil or deranged are quite clever in reaching their ends. A whole nursery of children died in the Oklahoma City bombing yet because it wasn't an individual with a gun -- but a bomb -- that event did not get nearly the attention. Perhaps there's something more personal about killing with a gun than there is a bomb -- but it's still killing and it's still death to innocents. Banning guns will not solve the problems in the world. Man ceasing his inhumanity to man is the only answer -- and in the meantime -- we must all continue to live in an imperfect world where morality cannot be legislated.

   Over 300,000,000 guns in circulation in America now how has that ended violence in America? Has it not been said "he who lived by the gun will die by the gun." I find it almost in staying to think that having a gun problem means in order to solve this problem people should get more guns.
   
   Granted there are other means of killing and harming people but statistically the gun is the most used and one has to be blind not to see that.
   
   Our fanatical desire for guns in America sends a message to the rest of the world that if you want to feel safe in America Bring A Gun!
   
   There is one possible single solution towards minimizing and hopefully ending so many needless deaths and that solution would be for those people who called themselves adults to begin understanding and acting like mature human beings. We cannot expect that end the violence in this country if everyone is running around prepared to kill anyone based on fear  real or imaginative.

   No, banning guns is not the answer. I don't know exactly what the answer is but if someone wants to kill they will find ways to do it that do not involve guns. We can't ban everything that's the bottom line.

    I live in a country with strict weapon restrictions, but I don't think that this really solves any crime-related problems.
    
    The catch is that some people will always find guns and with stricter laws, 'the bad guys' have an  advantage, as they will always be armed.
    
    Plus, if your government suddenly turns on you, there's less what you can do as an unarmed society. I think it is true that the government, as servant of society, should be afraid of the people, not the other way around.
    Otherwise, there's no good enough reason not to misuse power.
