I think it all depends on the person as everyone is different. For example my Nan smoked at least 20 cigarettes a day from the age of 13 to 79, she died of cancer of the pancreas which the doctors told us had no relation to smoking. My work colleagues mum who is a fit and healthy 70 odd year old, never smoked a day in her life, was diagnosed with cancer of the bladder and this form of cancer is most related to women who smoke. As for other smoking related diseases, I assume it all depends on the person and their lifestyle.
Whether you smoke or not you are going to die!
The real question is: Do you want to spend those final (years) attached to an oxygen tank fighting to breathe?
You can't really answer that. Is smoking healthy no. But like niceandfizzy said, some people smoke and never get sicks, others do. It depends on the person. You can be a health nut and die at a young age. I think maybe when it is our time to go, we will go.
I don't think there is a quantity of cigarettes a day will be causing your death as you may die in many ways like car accident, kill by muggers, etc.
But you need to think that while you are smoking, you are causing those people around you be affected with your smoke. Care for the world and quit smoking.
What's your time frame for dying? If you want to die the same day, you need to smoke exactly 278 cigarettes.
everyone will die ...
its not about the destination ... its about the journey towards the destination.
smoking only deteriorates the quality of the journey.
It is hard to say, but I have read studies that say that each cigarette decreases one's life expectancy by up to 20 minutes. Smoke 2 packs and you just erased one full day from your life.
Patrick Swayze was a chain smoker and he died 20 years before the average man does. In general, however, it has been said that the "average" smoker erases anywhere between 9-14 years off their life expectancy.
Die of what? 10% of smokers get cancer, others get heart disease, COPD, Osteoarthritis, ... the list is long. You want to feel crappy, smell bad, and be tired all the time? Not to mention the cost financially then smoke up. It takes years off the end of your life.
It's not widely published but PROVEN that certain people carry a genetic code that will prevent them from EVER getting cancer from smoking.
Merv Griffin died at age 82, was in good health his entire life and smoked ever day.
It's all about the risks you are willing to take with your own life. But the real question you and only you can answer is are the "benefits" (What ever that may be) of smoking greater than the potential risks?

Should a mother allow her 13 yr old child to smoke cigarettes or weed and display a tattoo? Some mothers nowadays just don't want their kids to remain kids. They openly let their children smoke and drink as if it was meant for them to do. Is this a fine line in the desert for you?
