COMMUNICATE!!! I cannot stress this enough. Listen to each other and talk to each other not at each other. Here is a quote to follow: "We have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak"  Epictetus

TRUST each other. He/ she should feel that you trust him/her more than anyone in the world. This would prevent him from doing anything wrong to you !!

Approach your marriage like it is forever and have a real stake in making it work.  Communicate, and laugh.  Don't sabotage yourselves by playing stupid games:  such as "what are you thinking?"  "If I died who you you marry?"  This kind of crap is useless and causes more problems than a newlywed can imagine.

I've been married for almost 43 years and my husband is my best friend and not to sound corny - but to me he is "home."  We talk about everything, share things, and often compromise to avoid a fight because in the long run some compromises are easier than the pain of having a huge fight.

Never ever ever say things that you don't mean in the heat of battle because like ringing a bell--it cannot be undone.  You or your spouse may apologize but what is said will stick for a life time even though the fight is long over and resolved.

Talk about these kinds of things beforehand.  I will not allow my husband to treat me with disrespect and he is the same.  There are lines we just will not cross.  He is everything to me, why would I treat him badly or speak rudely to him - he is the same way with me.

    works for us anyway....
