   Being older , I believe its normal ! Yet we can and should mature above it , its childish  to not live each moment with family to the fullest ,  only in the immortality driven youth do people "not get along " , ......Meaning that person you other wise love and cherish  , may be gone from you tomorrow!  Is rivalry worth the that price ?

   I think it's a two-sided coin, both good and bad. I'm the oldest of four brothers and I've seen sibling rivalry bring some of us closer and create a divide between us brothers. Now that we are all around 50 years of age, the bad things are less important. As we get older, it seems we have all become less combative and more gentle toward one another.

   Good or bad, it's very natural and really can't be prevented. The job of parents is to at least minimize it or channel it for the good. We have 3 kids, all born within 3 years. Rivalry was very intense when they were 12 and under. Now that they are all teenagers, it has really become minimal. Once kids develop their own interests, the rivalry really starts to ebb.

   What is your definition of moderate?  That may be a subjective question.  I think sibling rivalry comes with the territory for whatever reason, but when you are in public and around "strangers" then the rivalry becomes my siblings and I vs. the world.  I guess that's just how it is meant to be.  Control can also be a factor - I'm first, I'm older, I'm bigger.  When there is more than one of you in the house, you are fighting for your place in the house - just like we do everywhere else.

   Sibling rivalry is a common thing, even adults siblings. My bro and I are not in good terms either. Some misunderstanding happened and couldn't resolve easily. Takes time to make our relationship to recover.

   Rivalry is a common behavior of Human being!. In your question, you asked about sibling rivalry is good or bad. It is the situation or the subject on which the rivalry start, is determine whether it is good or bad.
   Sibling, not only  as child,  but also as teenage, as middle aged, as old aged,  showing rivalry.
   Rivalry start to get something from other one. It may be a book, fruit, food, money, wealth, or due to dis-opinion with the other. Such rivalry in many occasion, lead to bad result. It normally give negative energy and helps to spoil the life.
   Rivalry in healthy matters, like score higher grade in study, in business and such creative thinking, will yield good result. This will generate positive energy and helps to achieve new goals in life.
   Parent should always be vigilant and careful to guide and advice children to 'what to do and not to do'.
   Family culture, parents behavior, the social culture, friends and friendship etc are the prime stone to develop  character in an individual. Character and rivalry is closely related.
   So best character development in childhood itself will lead to develop healthy rivalry in children.
   Healthy rivalry promote healthy family, healthy family promote healthy  nation.
