Have you taken a college-level course online?
College courses from many top universities are available online through websites such as coursera.org and edX.org. Have you taken a course online, and if so, how would you rate the experience? Would you do it again? If not, why not?
Yes. I take a few courses from Sam Houston State online. Basically they give you the means while you learn. Some teachers give lectures through videos, but I've only had that in one class. Each teacher has their own style, so look them up on ratemyprofessors.com.
Yes, sir. They were for my associates and bachelors.
Oh, you don't have to 'sir' me just because I'm old enough to be your slightly older brother!
It's polite and I commonly use it here in Texas. Get's a smile out of most people
I have taken, off campus, business courses from James Madison University in Virginia and enjoyed it very much. I would recommend to anyone, that does not have the time to attend school in person, to check out the course offerings that many Universities offer online.
I have. I took an indexing course at Simon Fraser University online. I found it was definitely worth my money and it was a credit course. I would have liked more interaction between the students but we did have a forum where we would discuss course work.
Yes I have taken online college courses. I prefer the classroom, but with a family and at the time being a single parent, doing my classes online was better. I was working on my Bachelor's degree. I did online classes for a year and a half. The price was good for me and very affordable when all was taken into account. I would do online classes again in a heart beat. My classes were flexible in that school fit into life, not life fitting around school. There are many online options out there. Find what works for you in what you want to do and try it!
Oh, I am SG. Starting another course through coursera.org in a couple of weeks. Thanks for commenting.
Over the years, I've taken several college classes online. I've been fortunate that all of my experiences have been positive and I would highly recommend it as an option for anyone wanting to take classes. It does require a certain amount of self discipline, but I will probably take another class again someday!
smw, you're right about the discipline! Thanks for responding.
Yes. I learned a lot. It was a course in how to use Photoshop software. There were studies and quizzes I had to complete and submit assignments..The answers to the quizzes and tests were given instantly. I'd rate it an 8.and I'd do it again.
Now I teach online writing courses and have found out they don't work for EVERY subject. For some courses it is really much better to meet face to face. For example, business courses where you have mock business meetings, or courses in management, theater, science lab, design, or health care. You really need to do these in person with a teacher, not online.
Hi JimTxMiller. I am just now trying out this site and saw your post. As to college courses taken online. I am presently doing so and love it!!! I take web courses that are offered from a local college here in my area. I enjoy the freedom to do my course work when I choose as well as not having to be at class at 8:00 in the morning since I have a son and husband to get out the door. I am only working towards an assoicates degree in business which I will complete this summer but honestly......it has been perfect for me. I have only had one issue with an instructor who did not return emails or offer any further help then what was orgianally posted but because I am taking my courses through a local college I was able to connect with the dean of that particular area and work the issue out. All of my instructors have office hours on campus. If I have a problem that cannot be worked out via email, I just make an appointment with them and go to the campus and get it all worked out. I think web classes are wonderful!!! I could not have went to college right now had it not been for web classes and would have had to wait a couple more years to do so.
