   Definition of bladder cancer: Cancer that forms in tissues of the bladder (the organ that stores urine). Most bladder cancers are transitional cell carcinomas (cancer that begins in cells that normally make up the inner lining of the bladder). Other types include squamous cell carcinoma (cancer that begins in thin, flat cells) and adenocarcinoma (cancer that begins in cells that make and release mucus and other fluids). The cells that form squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma develop in the inner lining of the bladder as a result of chronic irritation and inflammation.

   Fortunately, I don't know anything about bladder cancer, but always find places like the Harvard Med school website and some others that show up on a Google search informative regarding symptoms, diagnosis and treatment. I hope that this is not a question that affects you personally!

   I knew someone who had bladder cancer.  He was told it had mainly two causes 1) working in an environment where you have contact with toxic chemicals or 2) smoking.  In his case, it was the second.  He had an op and was told it was all removed but had to keep going back for tests every few months which he found very unpleasant.  He still smoked even after all that!  He died a few years later but from something else entirely. As far as I know, it never came back.

   My husband has bladder cancer in remission. It was on the wall and surgically removed. It was Stage 1. He started bleeding when it began. Remission is now 5 years.

   I had an aunt who had a bladder cancer.  She was in great shape when she was diagnosed (she was an avid cyclist).  She worked as a nurse and was a non smoker so maybe she was in contact with some chemicals when she was working. 
   Unfortunately, she past away after a battle of a few years.   
   But I remember when she was first diagnosed that she was quite hopeful for remission because she met people who were survivors after more than 20 years!  So there is also hope.
   I hope that neither you or a loved one will be diagnosed with that illness.
