Many things; yet, even if someone asked me to board a plane to Paris one hour from now I would not hesitate to go (unprepared). It is my favorite city to travel to and you will have a truly amazing time if you do indeed go.
However, I would want to know many things if I had time to plan. What events (i.e. festivals) are going to be occuring during my time there. The value of their coin (euro) to ours. I would want to peruse a map or Google Earth and a book or two about the Celtic fshing village that became the City of Lights, to build some background knowledge of the city.
I would go to Barnes & Noble and read through several Paris Trip Guide books and then purchase the best one. I would download through I-tunes Rick Steve's audio tour guides for Paris and ensure I have a portable player for the many most beautiful Parisian walks. I would purchase extra baggage insurance. I lost a bag and without that extra insurance I would not have recovered my considerable investment in electronics, suits etc. I would learn some conversational French it will enrich your experience while in Paris. I would read more books about the city and country before I go... I would ensure I have ample euros to optimize my time there. I would recommend staying in a central are of the city in one of the many quaint hotels (I stayed near the and found it ideal to adventure out from (i.e. Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame etc.). Lzstly i would extend my stay a wee-bit.

Thank you connorj! I actually have a website and blog about Paris (and France) because I go there as often as possible. I'm wanting to redo my home page and looking for ideas to expand the website. I know what I like, but want to know what others do!

What is the money exchange rate? Were can I stay to fit our vacation limit? How will we travel? Hubby will want a motorcycle while I prefer to walk. Is there a group we can go with? Can a website take some of the costs down? I'd also print out a map of Paris and mark all of the places I'd like to go, talk to my husband about each place, and ask what he would like to see. After all, the trip wouldn't just be for me. He would have complete control of every meal, because that would be his favorite part.

It sounds like you would have a great trip - although personally, I would prefer walking as the streets of Paris are very congested and the Parisiens drive VERY fast! It's not hard, especially if you save ahead, to make the trip very affordable!

Luckily I've been to this great city several times and passed through en route to the Spanish Pyrenees in a car packed with baggage and family many times too (only getting lost once, the time we ended up in Orly airport car park after following what we thought was a road south to Toulouse!!)...but if I was on my way to gay Paris again I'd want to know :

    * times for the latest exhibition at the Louvre

    * the timetable for boat trips up and down the Seine

Ten years ago my partner and I were in Paris. It was early spring, couples were snoogling in the Jardin des Plantes, book sellers were opening up their little green sheds near Notre Dame and the sun shone all day Sunday. Magnifique!!
    Merci beaucoup pour le question.

    ~where to stay
    ~where to go
~where I can get the best massage
~what kind of transportation should I take

    mbwalz,
First of all I'd want to know how to speak at least a little French, so I guess I'd do that before I went. I'd also really want to know where all the good night clubs are located, and have a breakdown of the types of music, and the age group of each one.

how does US dollars compare to euros?, what are the clubs like, and what is the best thing to do there in the summer. I'm planning a trip there sometime in the summer I haven't decided yet.
