   Why do people take the risks that come with oral birth control?
   
   There have been many studies done and birth control can cause all kinds of problems in a women's body, including infertility and breast cancer. Why do people take that risk?

   People want to enjoy their sex life without any "complication" i.e. getting pregnant. Some men hate condoms because its affects their sensitivity. Taking pills gives women control over the situation. Oral birth control is great -- some pill also help regulate hormones, relief cramps, and treat acne etc. I order to avoid the risk, a woman needs to talk to the doctor. Some pills can be used during breast-feeding.
   There is no surgery required  or any other invasive medical procedure. Pills are also 99% effective.

      So even if they up the risk of breast cancer by 50%, its worth it?

   Every medicine has potential side effects including aspirin. Each individual weighs the options along input hopefully from their physician before making a decision on which birth control to use. Lately it's been other methods which have led to blood clots and death.
   Cancer has been linked to high fat diets and people still choose to eat fried foods and snacks. Cigarettes have the "warning" on the label stating "smoking has been known to cause cancer" and yet every year teens pick up the habit, In fact close to 500,000 people die a year in the U.S. due to smoke related diseases.
   In the big scheme of things "birth control" meds are way down the list of fears for most women. It's been reported that the leading cause of death for women is (heart disease). http://www.womensheart.org/content/hear … _facts.asp
   "267,000 women die each year from heart attacks, which kill (six times) as many women as breast cancer. Another 31, 837 women die each year of congestive heart failure, representing 62.6% of all heart failure deaths"
   
   Last but not least no one thinks "it" will happen to them. If we calculated the risk on every decision we made my guess is there would be lots of people who would choose not to have children. Seems like autism and ADD are on the rise, more children are having allergic reactions to common everyday foods, in addition there's always a chance a child will be born with down syndrome, missing organs or limbs, heart defect, spinal bifida...etc According to the CDC 120,000 babies are born with defects each year. My guess is every couple who is looking to conceive believes their children are going to be born healthy. My point is most women don't believe they will get cancer from taking birth control pills.

   Great question ii3rittles.
   Abstinence is just too difficult for some people to accept as the only real form of birth control. Some women were sold a bill of goods called women's rights and they bought it, but bundled in all the good rights like equal pay and equal jobs were some nonsense notions about the "right to control our bodies." Sheesh!
   If you are going to sleep with someone at least use a condom to protect "your body" or your partners from disease.
   Oh and by the way guys taking a pill does not give a woman control over any situation, it just makes it better for the guy. She still risks blood clots, cancer and std's..Oh and pregnancy too.

   I'm not sure. Before my marriage, I tried oral birth control for two months and found myself horribly depressed. Once I stopped taking the pills, I felt so much better. Much like a weight lifted off my mood. I could actually feel emotions again. I wasn't a zombie, someone without a heart. It was fantastic and I hope never to get on birth control again. Miserable pills designed to make you feel horrible...
