What is your personal reason for writing?
For me, writing is my outlet for emotions, but I am curious to see why other writers enjoy their craft.
Khmazz,
I write in the pursuit of a fulfilling lifestyle. I think that means something different to everyone, but for me, writing for a living gives me the flexibility to travel, spend time with my family, pursue my hobbies, and help other people. I couldn't do that with my other jobs.
So I guess I write for fulfillment in my career, and pretty much every other area of my life as well!
-Josh
That is wonderful that you have been able to make a currier out of something that you love and can allow you to be flexible with your other passions!
Khmazz - it's a journey; I'm not exactly where I want to be yet, but we have to start somewhere!
-Josh
I think in written word. I write for self reflection. I reveal the parts of me that go unseen in person for one person to find. My memory is failing. I write to leave the memory of my true self for my daughter to find even if I do not remember or am not on earth when she reads it. I write my truth for all to see to ensure that my daughter finds them easily and gets a clear view of who I am or was. Its all in hopes that she will get what she needs from me and my life when she needs it.
Writing hubs? To keep typing up papers that are not school related. Scribbling down stories? Because I love stories and characters. Why not allow others enter my world?
Simply because I enjoy it. I get my ideas out much more easily when I write about them. I've lately blended this with my love of video games to start this very blog. Back before, I wasn't inspired to write anything big. but I still haven't run out of ideas with this blog here. and as long as video games continue, I'll always have something to write about.
I think writing is a number of things for me. 1) as you wrote, an outlet for emotions 2) I started writing as a kid so I could tell the kinds of stories I enjoyed 3) I communicate so much more effectively with the written word then I do in conversation with people. Writing for me just flows, but speaking, I can't think of what I want to say, or I can't find the right word....writing is just easier.
After having retired from job, I could not sit idle. Writing here keeps me updated, interacting with so many intelligent people and at the same time making treasurer out of my unending thinking process.
I like the feeling of being able to create a world in which anything that I want can happen. I like creating stories that have crazy characters in them. It's all just fun for me.

Are you a writer who reads or a writer who doesn't read?Almost every article on how to become a good writer emphasizes the necessity to read, read, read. I am not a reader per se; I can't sit down with a novel and almost never read purely for enjoyment. I get all of my information from...
