   I grew up with dogs & my mom always went about potty training them as pups the same way. When you go to sleep, put them in a small cage, not too small though. They will not pee or poop where they sleep. Soon as you wake up, carry them right outside, never let their paws touch the floor. Once outside, place them down where you want them to go & give them a command. Say something like "Go Potty". After they do their business, praise them and upon entering the house, give them a treat. During the day when she was not able to keep a full eye on them, she would keep them gated off in the kitchen. They often whimper & sniff around before they go so it is easy to catch them before they go. Out of the 4 dogs I grew up with, as puppies, only one had an accident. Hope that helps!
   
   Also, if you have a dog that is potty trained, it will help them if they can sniff the their poo outside. I know it sounds gross but it helps them distinguish between inside & outside potty behavior. This works well with kittens who are not litter trained as well.

      i put my puppy in a cage but he still uses the bathroom in it...it's horrible. and he cries and bites the cage for hours...he's about 8 weeks old..

      How big is his cage? He should have enough room to stand & turn around in it. Anything bigger than that, he will go in it. Also, what is the breed? This has worked with German Shepherds, a Chow Chow mix & a Collie.

      he's a siberian husky. the cage was used for my german shepherd. the cage is maybe 3 times the size of the puppy.. enough room for maybe 6 puppies.

      You want a smaller cage. One that is about 2 lengths of the puppy's body.  Huskys are known for being stubborn & hard to train so it may take some time.

   Probably quite difficult, it is hard enough to get infants to use a potty, then the lavatory, it, I would imagine, Be more difficult to train a puppy in that process.

   Well, I have trained a few in my life.  I have never used the "crate method".  It is best when you first bring home your puppy to be with him/her constantly.   Otherwise make sure you have a couple days off of work before bringing your pup home.  The big thing is to take him/her outside throughout the day-every couple hours.  Remember their bladders are small when they are young.  When they pee, praise them over and over and tell them how good they are.  Try and use the same area of the yard each time they go out to pee.  They will smell where they use the bathroom previously and this reinforces to them in their minds that this is the "potty spot".  They will have accidents in the house,  immediately tell them  "no" and take them outside (do not rub their nose in it or beat them).  Also, remember when puppy's are first in a new place and they get excited in the house (this usually happens when someone comes and visits and they get excited) they will have an "pee accident".  I personally never scolded my dogs for these accidents because I felt they could not help it. The same goes if they get scared in the house (their first thunderstorm for instance or if someone intentionally scares them).  Anyway, be patient and persistent, they will learn to hold it and go outside.  Try to keep them on a schedule as they learn to hold it and take them out at the same times every day and before retiring for bed.  Hope this helps.
