How does one move up as a commentator?
I seem to have been a level 5 commentator for ages. I do comment regularly but do not move up. Any tips from higher graded commentators?
Hi Lizam1 I really do not know nor remember my level. I will have to go to the Learning center to discovery or check back, I will share I reached whatever level I am at by kinda' just having fun while reading. I do vote and leave accolades usually too. I sometimes forget to that and have to go back and do it. Maybe they should put a thingy on the comment window that pops up. Then when we read what we commented it will trigger the action lost with pondering or thinking. What do you think? Ever forget to vote and such?
Well, I will check back. Do keep that smile of yours brightening up hubpages. It does count too. (shhh, don't tell Sannel I said that - giggle)

Each level comes with commenting a certain amount of times much like a game where you move up one level when you have completed a certain amount of points.
But commenting on Hubpages is not only accessed through the actual number of comments but the type of comments as well. Are your comments one or two word comments such as "nice hub", or " thanks for posting this"? Such comments are not considered good comments and do not start discussing or seem to relate to the hub at all. So make sure your comments are insightful and relate to what you have read. I think HP scores your comments by the number of words you leave in a comment plus the amount of times you leave comments on hubs. You also gain points if you start a discussion about the hub where you acatually go back and comment again.
Plus, you drop level if you stop commenting for a while.
I don't know how HP defines "a while." I hit level 8--for a single day only! WTH could I have done different/more just overnight????!!! There must be more to it than that!
Thanks - yes I do try to say more than "nice hub". Appreciate your answer and suggestions.
I am a level 5 too, but got there from reading hubs and making thoughtful comments that were a sentence or two long, probably like yourself. I have several hobbies and love to check out the hubs that inspire me or offer new ideas. I haven't had much time to read hubs lately so I figured my commentator score wouldn't be going up any time soon.
I was a level 8 commentator now I am a level 6. I suppose it depends on your activity although I do seem to do just about as much as I did before. It's just a number in the end. Do what you feel comfortable with.
Apparently, the number of times you comment, and number of discussions you start (since there is an accolade for this one) on a hub via comments are major factors.
However, I don't think one should really bother about this number, you should always leave quality comments on hubs, whenever you get time. Comments are powerful means to attract traffic, create backlinks and more - I've an entire hub dedicated to the utility of comments. So this capsule is much more than a cure for low level number.

Is anyone else unhappy with Hubpages ranking commentators? Level 1, level 2, etc?It makes me feel that, simply because I have better things to do much of the time, my input and feedback when I choose to comment on an article is less important than someone of a higher level. Shouldn't they compared...
