   In my current project, I have had a couple of chapters which are mostly focused on dialogue....
   
   In the current story I am working on, I've got a couple of chapters that really focus on dialogue between the characters, I am just wondering as a reader, would you find this annoying or boring? It's all pertinent to the story so in my opinion it is both necessary and natural to the flow of the story but I've also read stories where the dialogue went on and on so I wonder what do others, as readers, think?

   I think that pure dialogue is enough to carry a short story.  I wouldn't be overly concerned, as long as the dialogue paints the picture that you need it to paint.

   I always ppreferred stories that carried a lot of dialogue over those that had a lot of description.  I tend to get bored with description and have to reread it because I lose my concentration.

   I think it is only expected that if you are writing a story which deals with interaction between two or more people that there will be dialogue throughout.  Dialogue is tedious and requires the writer to change persona to tune the reader to the character speaking the words...that takes time and many writers are too impatient to spend the time.  I realistically cannot see a story that has a couple of chapters of dialogue imbedded into it and devoid of it in other areas....it's not realistic and the reader will notice quickly. ~WB

   Short stories must be moved along quickly, and (in my opinion) good dialogue can often do that better than expository writing. As a reader, I find that good dialogue helps me understand the characters--get inside their heads--as well as the story's plot.

   Hi Shanders, if it is necessary and natural to the flow of the story you are writing, as a reader, I will not be annoyed and I will not feel boring either because dialogue can make your story sound more interesting and captivating.  Just keep writing what you think is necessary for your story.  Good luck with your writing.

   I, personally, would love it!  I love dialogue, and often wish that books had more of it!  Dialogue puts you "right there" at the scene....it makes everything seem more "real."  Dialogue can also lend itself to being amusing, if the situation calls for it.  Something else I love in books, is when the author writes what is going on inside the main character's head.  It's great for character development!

   I love dialogue in a story.  I think it's the best way to establish a character.  It helps the story flow.  If you think it's necessary then it is.
