Many are called (Grace), but few are chosen (Faith)

I am not a Christian and my impression when I first read that sentence, I thought it mean "Many are called to become Christian, but few are chosen to go to Heaven". But I was told that my interpretation is wrong.

WalterPoon- Jesus took our sins for ALL mankind on the cross in exchange grace has been offered to ALL. But it take Faith that one has received and accept His grace of forgiveness. What is important is to believe.

Graceinus, how can that be, when I see sins being committed everyday with my own eyes? Murders, robberies, rape, corruption, racism, and many more...

WalterPoon- You asked a good question that deserves the right answer. There is not enough space here to explain. It has taken me many years to understand this and alot of bible study. The bible is where you WILL find your answer that your deserve.

Hi Graceinus, I did read the Bible before. It's a rather thick book. Maybe you ought to make a hub out of my question, LOL. I am sure many people would like to know the answer in a nutshell.

Jesus calls you on the phone, you pick up the phone and you don't know who is calling and what they want and all Jesus (person on the other end of the phone you don't know) is speaking about is Love, Peace, Forgiveness and would you want to know more. Do we decide to listen to this person we don't know well or hang up the phone? The chosen seems to me to be the choices we make, not so much in faith but in our day to day choices, what did we do in our lives to take what we learn from Jesus and how did we apply it to our lives with Love, Peace and Forgiveness!! Cool Question.

I believe Christ was saying through His grace all have the chance through Him to enter into heaven. But not all will make it in because of unfaithfulness. The chosen are those who live and obey His words. As Christ also said not all that say Jesus, Jesus will enter in. There is no other way to eternal life but through Christ Jesus.

Blessedp, I agree with you that not all Christians will go to heaven. The last sentence, however, is controversial to non-Christians. To me, Jesus is a mentor and teacher, and the rest is up to the individual.

many people here the the word and many people try their best to follow but lack in faith. many people have faith but get discouraged, alot are distacted and fall away, many dont like the fact that they must do  what the word says and give up bad behavior  , while others question it as a none truth, and some because the truth is hard to deal with, how many friends have you hadin your life that have turned on you , im sure more than that have stayed faith full!  the way to heaven is hard so life . But God is always willing to take us back .no matter what we have done

Bobcat1, when Jesus said, "Many are called, but few are chosen"?, did he mean "chosen to go to Heaven"?

Because many people think they are right with God, but are not
It is seen in the parable of the seeds
    Matthew 13:22
He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
