Is global warming still controversial?
are there still nonbelievers?
Yes, a lot of them, and I'm sure you'll be hearing from them shortly. Actually, global warming has taken a bit of a pause, which has only made the skeptics shout louder. I wrote a Hub called "Has Global Warming Stopped?". By some measures it has, but it is very unlikely the pause is going to remain for long or lead to a reverse in the long term temperature trend. Global temperatures have been more or less flatlining in the short term over the past 15 years or so, but a lot of other indicators, such as ice sheets melting and sea levels rising indicate that global warming continues. This flatlining has coincided with very weak sun spot activity and reduced solar radiation and a cooler Pacific Ocean, with more La Ninas than El Ninos, so the recent flatlining could be masked by other temperature forcings from the sun and the biggest ocean on Earth. Things could get interesting later this decade.
Yes I believe the people who tend to be in denial that global warming is happening are usually not scientists. We humans have made the natural CO2 levels unbalanced; the Northern Hemisphere is warmer than it has ever been in the past 1000yrs! The effects of this unnatural balance of CO2 is resulting in a dominoe effect; so many different elements are effected by this unbalance. We must start trying to live and think more in a green way; a good start would be driving our cars less- instead dust off our bikes and away we go! This would be a small start in the right direction.
Global warming will always be controversial. The so called facts surrounding global warming are very contradicting. Even the title ‘Global warming’ contradicts itself due to the fact that as the temperature rises, air born water increases (lots more cloud) which in many areas actually creates a cooling climate.
As for the cause of any temperate change, there are many, but until the powers that be actually start to be honest about it the controversy will continue. After all if we are punching holes in the Ozone layer each time we launch a rocket, do you think those powers would risk shutting down the space program just because we think it is contributing to global warming?
CO2 is sited as the main contributor, but isn’t Carbon Capture just another way of saying its ok to produce CO2, because we have the technology to remove it, we don’t need nature?
As for the actual Global temperature; historic measurements are taken for Ice core samples from the South Pole. More recent temperature measurements were record from a sparse number of land based thermometers scattered around the globe, now we have satellites that measure the whole of the globe. How can anyone justify comparing estimated global temperature figures from an insignificant number of thermometers to a global image?
Best to stick with ‘Climate change’. Most people have experienced some extreme weather in their local area and can at least relate to it.
Global warming will always be controversial. I myself agree we should be more conscious of green technology as it is the right thing to do but whether global warming exist is still open to be resolved. I understand that there are things that affect global warming as indicated by some reports but the extent of the impact is the question. I am not a person blind to facts but the facts being presented by both sides when compared is not concrete proof that global warming exist.
Also some profess to be concerned about global warming but their actions indicate they want others to react but their actions do not match their philosophy. Individuals who are really concerned must match their actions with their words.
The controversy is more related to whether or not humans are the result of any significant contribution to the change in climate. Considering that I live on an island that was once a sheet of Ice and thawed long before humans existed, I can see a strong argument for that lack of human influence. One of the warmest periods in the history of the world with the highest CO2 levels was the Cretaceous Period. The planet was one big jungle and humans were not a dominant species polluting the environment. The climate has been changing. I would argue it has been in a constant state of change. Change seems to be the norm. But their are still a number of respected scientist that don't believe humans are any significant contributing factor.
Controversy starts with history. Did you know that the scientists recently admitted that the ice core data for CO2 was at least 800 years adrift? The increase in CO2 is now attributed to the lack of air born dust.
Doesn't surprise me. 35 years ago the global cooling panic was the rave. Then Global warming. Then because they can't get it right, it became climate change. Because before humans...the climate never changed. I don't pay much attention anymore
Wow. After all that has come out, I would ask "are there still any BELIEVERS!"
I would ask the people in Moore Oklahoma after a F5 tornado if they believe.
I would NOT capitalize on the Oklahoma tragedy for a political purpose. I would NOT look at an isolated weather incident as proof that man-made global warming on a planetary scale is occurring.

I'm confused. I've read and heard arguments that global warming is really just part of a natural temperature change process for the earth. I've also read that it's completely man-made? Is it one or both of these? Please explain.

I came upon this news that a study showed majority of the Americans do not believe humans caused global warming / climate change. Any idea if this is true? What about the rest of the world, what do we believe? This is the website - http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2 … -activity.
