   Which gaming style could take over the Xbox One and PS4?
   
   The Playstation One and Two era belonged to the RPG.  The Xbox 360 and PS3 brought about a new era of first-person shooters.  Which gaming type could experience an explosion with the Xbox One and PS4 set to come out?

   None. What will change is scale. FPS shooters will still remain on top with games like BF4 coming out in 64 player modes for these consoles.
   
   You might see a slight ARPG rise in the PS4 with D3 as well.

      Sadly you are absolutely correct.
      We need publishers that are willing to take more risks.  You can't even have a great story-telling game like bioshock without some fps elements thrown in for broad appeal.

   I been seeing more horror themed titles like "outlast" and "the evil within." But I don't think it's going to be the most popular genre, but maybe more so compared to last several years.

   I think it will stay about the same and no major risk will be taken by those manufacturer.  They will toe the line of continue what is proven to make them money

   The PS4 and XOne will both run on different processors than their current gen counter parts, and making games for the PS4 will be a lot easier than it was to make PS3 games. I studied and dabble in game design, so I kinda agree with that. So there will likely be more Next-Gen games, than what we have now.
   
   As for types of games that will take over, I suspect Adventure Games/3rd Person Shooters. We have Bayonetta 2, Assassins Creed IV, Beyond: Two Souls, etc. Regardless, the latter two will be on PS3 also. My bet is on 3rd Person Shooters. And on a side note, I also believe in JRPG's. Since I love to import games, and the PS3 and PS4 are region free, I don't really have to worry about waiting for them to come to the US.

      Sounds like a logical choice.  That style of shooter has come on very strong thanks to Resident Evil and Gears of War.

   It's true that FPS games will strangle the market, but this will lead to another video game crash. If you recall the ones in '77 and 83, that was due to too many consoles being released and too little variety in game choices. Because games cost considerably more now and have higher budgets, if there is a sign of a crash, it'll happen almost immediately. But until there is a harbinger, there won't be another genre that can take over.
   
   I personally would like to see platform games return. Even if they're not the dominant species like they were in the NES-early PS2 era, I'd still like to have some more choice than Rayman and Little Big Planet, and I don't want to pay an extra £235 so Nintendo can have all the fun, either.
   
   I'm hoping there's a crash soon - it'd do some good for the current market, and purge the weak.

      For sure.  Thinning the herd is something that has to happen every once in awhile.  It keeps the best on their toes.

   I feel as long as kids can convince their parents to go out and buy them video games, then whichever games get the most hype.. Usually FPS Games (Halo, BF, COD) will always be in the number one spot..
