Do you have a paid-paid for website to promote your writing?
I recently got onto Google Sites simply to try it out, and decided to make a site for my writing so I could experiment with it. But now I am wondering if it's worth it to actually pay for it?
Have you tried WordPress for blogging? I just started trying to get published with writing so the one hub is all I have so far. I have an Etsy site and have started a WordPress for that and I like how easy and free it is
I like the idea of blogging, but I don't feel like I have anything going on regular enough to hold an audience. I have a pseudo blog for our video production company but I don't have anything else interesting to blog about
Yes, a personal website can be absolutely worth it. You can't just build one though and expect people to find you - it's more of a marketing tool. I use my portfolio to highlight my experience and I have a convenient place for clients to go to see all my samples and work etc. Think of it as a resume on steroids lol.
I haven't updated mine in a bit actually - I need to do that, but I have a lot of work at the moment (due to having a website and marketing myself )
Web hosting and a domain should not be an expensive proposition at all. You can get basic web hosting for a few bucks a month and a domain for about 10 per year.
You can use something like WordPress and a template for a very basic site, or there are other editors out there also. If you truly have no web design experience you might want to invest in design, but that truly isn't necessary in the beginning.
What web host do you use? Google has been pretty easy to use, but I don't think I can get my own domain name with them, and there's a few areas it's limited on. I'm not a fan of Webs at all.
I'm a webdesigner so I use HostMonster.com for my hosting and design my sites from scratch. I do believe though if memory serves they have webpage builders you can use. I register domains at name.com but you can probably get with webhosting pkg.
I have a Webeden site, but I don't have to pay for it. At a particular level of involvement it's free. Take a peek at the link on my Northworld Saga site page to see what you can do with a Webeden site of your own. Add uploaded photos/diagrams/spreadsheets or whatever that you've created on your own computer, blocks of copy can be juxtaposed in whatever size you want/need with your images.
In short you can 'showcase' your talents. Ask advice. Heidithorne, amongst others, gave me some hints for presentation and ease of access that I took up. I also added an Amazon Books link.
There's also a new organisation called '1&1', where you can create your own showcase. I haven't looked into this one yet, or 'Constant Content' and 'Textbroker'. You can try them. Looking costs nothing.
I have a blog on google, and a website at weebly. I have been trying to decide if I want to keep my google blog or not. Yet, I have been there so long, that even though it is not where my website is housed, I really do like a lot of the other perks there. Weebly is an easy platform for people like me that just don't understand all the technology of website building. I use to be on wordpress too, they are really good. For me, it was just keep trying until I found one I could understand.
Yours is out there waiting for you, go for it.
