Is it o.k. to misspell a word if it's low in competition (adwords) Example: getaway versus get away
When searching for something many people plug in the wrong spelling, (slightly typo) but it can make a big difference in google searches. Is it a smart move?
You have to be careful of the words.
If you are simply a poor speller, then you may be combining two words into one which are not one. For that you should learn to spell.
Now if you take the example you gave - each of the samples are words that each have different meanings, and therefore you may be throwing your readers off track.
So again, you have to be very careful. Your best bet if you are not sure is to look up the words up in a dictionary and decide which one has the meaning for what you are writing.
Thanks Examiner-1 for your comment. Just looking at strategy, not that I didn't know the difference between the two. The dictionary is always close at hand
Very good. I do that too. I just wrote a Hub on how I try to correct as many of my errors as I can ahead of time. ;-)
I think you have to be very careful with your spelling. The way I approach my hubs is that I want to be seen by my readers and also the search engines as an expert in the field that I write on. Experts do not make spelling mistakes. Think of it from your own experience, if you went to a site for advice and it had spelling errors especially in the title, would you come back to that site or read other pages on it? I wouldn't.
I understand how it could be tempting though. I have done work on keywords with Google Tools and seen how some misspelled words get 1,000 of hits per month, but I never choose them for the reasons above. I just keep looking until I find keywords that are as good and that I can use.
Thanks Robbie, I assumed this of course. Spelling is one of the most important things people look at in quality work. Way back when I had a website misspellings like that were encouraged in meta tags but people didn't see those!

How come I can't see a misspelled word in my own Hubs, but I can spot one a mile away on someone else's Hubs? I read one today that had a word used incorrectly (could have two different meanings, but spelled the same). The Hub had about 25 comments, and no one had mentioned the word. I...

When I read tutorials my head spins. So please give me an example using my topic: a recipe for baked salmon. If the title is "How to make Herb-crusted baked salmon", and I use the phrases "salmon fillet" "fish" throughout the hub, that's not optimizing right? Examples...

Why are people using more and more confusing and ambiguous words nowadays?I am seeing this trend nowadays very frequently that words get used which can refer to two or more meanings thereby creating confusion among readers. For example, "Tire" instead of Tyre". Tire refers to getting...

How dependent are you on Spell Check?Seeing made up words and misspellings all over HubPages made me wonder how dependent most people are on spell check. I do just fine checking my own work and using a dictionary (although I know I'm not perfect). I also know there are those who type their work...

I have noticed that the spell check within the capsules does not recognize certain contractions, such as, "I've," and will underline it as an error, when in fact, there is no spelling error.

I have been here on HP over 3 years, and still don't fully comprehend the concept! I get that they are words and/or phrases that reflect the content of your article, aren't tags, and that they're not to be 'stuffed'. Apparently I have some block to this, since some of my articles have...
