What steps can you take to stay close to God when you are having conflict with your church leaders?
Currently I had and issue where my leader at church offended my family and we are trying to reconcile. We know the leader is a man of God, but our feelings are hurt. How can we handle it without letting the devil make it into something bigger?
Have you brought this up to him? I would just bring it up in a kind and respectful manner as you most likely would anyone else, and let him know how it affected you and your family. If he is a man of God , he will no doubt understand and want to reconcile as you do. Just remember kind and respectful.
You don't need to go to church to have a relationship with God.
You are right you do not need to go to church to have a relationship with God. The reason we should go to church is to build ties with like minds and a community that truly love and support one another.
Is he was a man of God then you would feel intimidated by him. Simple really.
Now I would suggest you just speak to him in private and tell him you were offended by his comments and/or attitude. If he is a man of God he will apologise and make no excuses.
Your relationship with God is entirely independent of your relationship with other people, so there should be no concerns about 'staying close'. As for imaginations that the devil will make it worse, I wouldn't worry about that or give it a second thought.
Seek God within yourself. Glorify God in your body. Know ye not that ye are the temple of God and the spirit of God dwelleth in you? Every human leader will make mistakes. There are no perfect humans. You have to decide whether you want to be a follower of imperfect men or contact God directly. There is nothing wrong with enjoying the teachings of others, but understand that every leader has hidden flaws and mistakes.
I am very curious on what they said. I am thinking it is about your race. email me if you can.
If it is I can show you in the Word of God (The Bible) that he is full of crap and not from God... let me know and Ill show you....
Matt 18:15-18 tells you what to do no matter who he is. a leader has more responsibility but is no different than any other saint. (remember God hates the clergy/laity lie) Being a leader he should be approachable by anyone and listen, he has a responsibility to see proper scriptural steps are taken in any issue. if he is truly a man of God he will respond properly . His response will tell you . If he deals with the issue scripturally and head on great. if you are wrong repent at once . If he is he must repent at once. If only his approach is wrong he must repent for that then deal with the issue. If he tries to cover his butt and intimidate you then you must stand your ground- scripturally. If he can do not wrong ( as so many today ) then, when you finish the steps in MT get away--fast. You need to look at why you are intimidated and so does he. We , esp leaders are to be true servants and not to intentionally intimidate our brethren. And we as fellow believers should not allow anyone to intimidate us. and no matter who we are we should be approachable by anyone.
one other warning -- we must be careful to not be offended too easily. We should be able to hear anything and then respond properly by repenting and changing if we are wrong and if we are not wrong, standing our ground scripturally.
the only time a Christian should be intimidated by anyone is if he is wrong and refuses to change.
I forgot, you are a mormon so this probably will not work for you. It is the CHristian way of resolving conflict.
I like this answer. I was so surprised that there was not reference to my Mormon faith Until you added it! I am intimidated because I hate to cause strife and his position is voluntary. I don't want to stress him out. If he were paid it would be easy
have you been in a temple? do you have a temple recommend? You are not a temple mormon are you?
The first thing I would consider is why do I feel afraid to discuss the issue with this person. The leaders of spiritual organizations are supposed to be the Shepard of their flock,it is their duty to love and nurture their congregation, that is why people come to them.
I have a spiritual master that I go to when I am seeking answers and I know that he loves me, so I expect that he treats me like a son. If he were to ever hurt my feelings I would respectfully question him as to why he used that particular approach. He may not have realized that I as sensitive a person. He may have been having a bad day. I may have been having a bad day and took it the wrong way. There are so many factors.
Ultimately, the relationship is love God, love one another and work out our differences. There should be no fear if the relationship is genuine.
Best wishes.

I see a lot of religionists trying to argue that their faith is not really faith. It is either "proven" because god found their car keys or whatever. Or the same as having faith that evolution happens because evolution was not videotaped as it happened. Or arguing that it is...

Why are people offended when others don't accept their faith? If you are sure, why be upset?Christ never tried to convince anyone to believe in him. He had a purpose, lived it out and people believed on the power of God within him. Why get so defensive?
