We live in such a visual world. It paints a picture, brings us in and captures attention for readers.
Hubs with pictures or images help us understand the 'message to be delivered' with the content of a Hub-page. They can be restful, informative, rousing or arousing. Add maps perhaps, if the theme has a physical aspect.
Just plain text on its own tends to be informative but boring. Our eyes wander sometimes - it's only human. Give the 'wandering eye' something to rest on before it goes back to reading.
Adding photos to your hubs engages the reader more, draws their eye and makes your hubs more user-friendly. Likewise, adding links (either on sidebar or directly into certain words in your capsules) gives the reader more information on your subject matter and a gateway to new places to investigate.
awordlover used pictures -photos, paintings and clipart- on all her hubs (sometimes overmuch) and recently the team has been going over her older hubs because Hubpages' rules have changed regarding usage, source and links. Because many of her earlier hubs have no links to where she located the photo, we have to delete those photos because the copyright ownership is questionable. We are now revamping those hubs with updated photos, source links etc. In doing so, we are seeing a large amount of hub views of the revamped hubs. So this proves that photos are an important part of creating your hubs.
Use photos, videos and links wherever possible and every month or so, go back and check your links to make sure they are still linked to a published work (not a dead end). Good luck in your writing.
Jillian Burns, a member of awordlover's team
Hubs without pictures will make it dull. Reading only the text without images isn't attractive. People love pictures these days.
Attractive photos with an interesting caption draw the readers in to stop and read your title and look over your summary and give you more of a chance of getting more traffic to read entire your Hub, depending on your content.
Place your best photo first because it will show up first to catch the attention of viewers and has the best chance of drawing in traffic. I am sure that you know the famous saying, "The eyes have it."
The more photos which you place on your Hub is more likely to help keep them there, and videos also help with this.
"A picture says 1000 words!" Many people are visually stimulated and relate to a photo that delivers the gist of the content succinctly. A good photo inspires the reader to want to read more. I say this from my own personal experience and how I react to hubs with or without photos. When I see a hub without photos I'm a little less engaged with the hub. On the other hand, if a hub has at least a lead-in photo, then the photo itself can be enough to make me want to read the hub.
We just need to be able to visualize what the person is actually talking about, I don't mind reading hubs without them, but they are so much more interesting with them.
We love to read magazines with beautiful pictures, don't we!
Hubs without pictures will not hold the reader' s attention and the reader might not be interested to read it till the end. The whole idea is to keep the reader engaged and involved.
yes, buy shouldn't the content matter more that how the hub looks?
Yes, of course the content matter is very important. But pictures make you visualise your content and enhances the impact on the reader. Suppose, you are talking about a recipe, it is important to see how it is actually made and how it will look.

We all want hubpages to be full of hubs that are informative, containing facts, well-researched observations, or personal insights in various areas. Yet some of the most popular hubs are, frankly, JUNK, IMHO. Here's one, again, IMHO:http://hubpages.com/hub/iPhone-5-ReviewSince iPhone 5 doesn't...

I just logged in and it shows every single one of my hubs highlighted in pink, to need review. The majority of these were well trafficked and featured hubs or editor's choice. Did something happen? I tried looking in the questions and forums and didn't see anything. I am not a former Squidoo person...
