They did for a few years but once they start school someone always ruins the fun by telling them there is no Santa.  Once they learned it and asked, I told them that no, he was a myth.

We let them believe when they were very young because it was fun and they got excited about the idea.

I know a lot of people consider it lying to the kids...I suppose a case could be made for that. My girls believed, learned the truth about age 5 and they seem to be okay with it. They did not turn out to be liars or damaged by it.

My daughter wanted to continue to believe even after she found out the truth. It's something about fairy tales I think that makes Santa and the Easter bunny so appealing to kids; I also wanted my daughter to take part in it no matter how silly.

It is such a magic time for kids. I am 62 and I vividly remember how fascinating and magical it was to believe in Santa. I wanted that for my kids too.

When my two children were young we introduced them to Santa Claus and every year they eagerly looked forward to visiting Santa in the mall and to hanging their stockings on Christmas Eve and leaving some Christmas cookies out for him they had helped make. Of course they eagerly looked forward to what Santa left them on Christmas morning.

Even after they figured it out that Santa was a myth they continued to enjoy hanging their stockings up until they grew up and left home.

We also observed St. Nicholas Day on December 6th by placing a shoe outside their bedroom door the night before so that St. Nicholas could put a treat in it when he made his rounds that night.

Believing in Santa Claus and St. Nicholas added to the magic of Christmas and the whole family enjoyed this.

I am in agreement with you although I didn't know about St. Nicholas, I will have to introduce him to my grandson, I am so looking forward to this.

I never taught my children to believe in Santa Claus because they held me in high esteem and would be very disappointed if what I told them was untrue. I made them aware of the Legend of Santa Claus but explained to them that their parents and other relatives bought them presents. They were perfectly satisfied with that explanation and when they had children of their own explained the legend and the facts.
