Do you like your given name?

I like my given name. It is the Chinese word of "?", i.e. Hui. It is a orchid plant, quiet, scent, and elegant. Furthermore, Chinese words come from ancient inventions. This word is made up with a minor part of 'grass' and a major part that refers to a daily life with whole heart. A typical lady's name.

When I was young I didn't like my name because my mother's name was Audrey too.  It was while living in Hawaii that I came to understand the meaning of my name.  Audrey comes from the Anglo Saxon, St. Audrey, meaning noble and strength.  In Hawaii my name is "Aukele."  Today I really love my name.

There were times when I was younger I didn't like Sheila, but I think that's because it was so different. Now I like it for that same reason. It's cool having a name I don't hear a lot. If someone calls out the name Sheila, they're probably talking to me. Of course, if I were in Australia I might be confused since they refer to any female as a Sheila. I also found out that it's an Irish name which means "musical" and since I have a love for music (at least most types of music) I think it's a good fit.

I do for the most part.  My given name is Patricia and while it is rather old fashioned, it is also a name that lends itself to tons of nicknames. My family calls me Trish or Tricia, friends call me Pat, people I don't know will call me Patty which I hate!!!

Well, I'm named after an Oak-like tree. Not sure how much it reflects my personality. However, I do believe in the following:

Our names are the easiest reference to our unique being in this world. If we were referring to each other by physical characteristics our uniquness will be taken out of the picture.

When we refer to ourselfes with our names, we usually recall deeds and traits of our own.
From what I have seen so far in my life, people who don't like their names usually don't like themselfes for who they are.

So, liking your name is liking yourself. One is as proud of his name, as is as proud of himself.

Insightful interpretation. I have taken three Chinese 'Hui' as my name, same pronunciation but different spelling and meaning. The last one is me. I like the current name and me, but not in old time. It's like a life journey to find out who I am.

Hey Hui... At first I didn't liked my name because people 'd ask its meaning or repeat it showing that they had never heard of it...But I love my name now...Its Nigham not Nighat or Nigam ( popular ones) ...
My mother says its a name of a precious stone...Related to "Nagina" (Diamond)...
And father says its meaning is "The purest vision of love I have"!!!... Funny thing is he gives me logic after this meaning... big_smile
Whatever its meaning is...I just love it...because its different...and most of all people do remember me because of my name... smile
