Agreed! And one more thing that bothers me is how Hubpages is emphasizing on creating good titles, where in fact, a huge chunk of those featured seems to have poor ones.

The one's I've had chosen are usually on topics that are not oversaturated.  For example, my first one ever was about restoring old photographs in Photoshop.  I used a lot of screenshots and it was a very thorough tutorial.  Another one I had chosen was on Soap Berries - something interesting and unusual that not a lot of people were familiar with, but is starting to gain popularity.

I think it's a blend of unique content and thoroughness mostly, if I had to wager a guess.  Those that I've had chosen also have a lot of original photos too, perhaps that factors in. A lot of capsules and a nice layout also help I think.

I agree with most of the points you made and Oversaturated topics--yes, you have a point there! Thanks!

I notice that all Hub of the Days are hubs with content that is tutorial in nature with lots of tips and helpful original photos. All of my Hub of the Days have fit the above profile. In fact, as I'm constructing and writing a hub, I try hard to make it a hub that people find worthy enough to save for future reference or share with someone else. When I follow the above-described format, I have a good chance of that hub being selected as a Hub of the Day. The other criteria is as mentioned by ChristinS. The subject must be one that is not heavily saturated or at least, the hub should demonstrate a different angle of a popular subject.

I agree with you that Content is king, and information told in easy to understand manner or tutorial, as you call it, may be the reason for being selected as HOTD.
      Thanks for sharing your opinion!

Hub of the Day must follow all guidelines for HubPages and not violate any rules - for example all of your images must be credited if not your own.

Main thing is though - it needs to be read.

I've had one hub picked as Hub of the Day, that was my most viewed hub of all time even before being picked, and it still is. I wrote it as an answer to the Weekly topic inspiration so that immediatly started getting me views from the staff. The huib was just a simply topic but helpful, "What is great customer service?"

I guess it was just picked from there.

I agree with the points you made. Your hub topic made me curious to visit your hub and I must say it deserves to be HOTD.
      Thanks for your response!

You're right that Hubs of the Day must follow all guidelines, although among other things, there are frequent features without proper citation, which is a little frustrating.

I don't understand the criteria for selection of Hub of the Day. I see what I consider to be very strange topics/hubs winning this and am currently thinking that the selection is done by some automatic system or based on some odd identification of something trending in the hub writer's hubs.  The point is that Hub of the Day gets more traffic from the HP community and therefore a little more $$.  How can I win the Hub of the Day?

Thanks Kalmiya, for answering the question!
I am appreciative of the selected hubs for Hub of the day but it is just sometimes that I wonder that there are some excellent hubs, which do not feature as HOTD!
