What is the most important invention ever made in human history?
I know that there are lots of great inventions in this world. These inventions are the products of the great minds of scientists and researchers. In your own viewpoint, what do you think is the most important invention ever made by human? Why do you consider it important, and how did this invention affect our lives today?
I was asked with the same question way back in college (during an interview). Well, I am just so excited to know your opinions/answers on this matter - the reason why I posted this question here.
I would have to say penicillin. Before the invention of this antibiotic, so many died from so many simple infections. The invention of this drug by Alexander Fleming in 1928 transformed the medical world. Many, many lives have been saved by this antibiotic which is still used today.
The plastic grocery bag. It not only hauls your food to the car and beyond, you can use it in an all but unlimited number of second life roles: wastebasket liner, overnight bag, gift sack, rain hat, book bag, bicycle handlebar pannier, suffocation of your annoying aunt ... those things and more. Only the bounds of your imagination can stop you from inventing new ways to use this marvel of human ingenuity. What else comes close?
The pen, father of all science, of all technology, of all knowledge.
I think the greatest invention is written language. Written language has brought our species countless benefits, not the least of which is in recording the processes for which other great and beneficial inventions are formulated, designed, made and distributed.
the wheel. without , there would be no cars, heavy machinery, trains, planes, bicycles, semi trucks, and countless other inventions that have been so important
I hate choosing only one thing, but since it hasn't been said yet, I'm going to nominate the printing press. It made writing, books, and knowledge accessible to EVERYONE, not just the wealthy aristocracy. The written word is one thing - but for centuries, only the elite could read. The printing press changed this. Literacy rates went up, knowledge (and stories) became globalised, countries could communicate with each other more easily, the Christian bible became more widespread (more copies/scripture available - also true for other religions), and so forth.
As a result of the printing press, language, communication and education changed irrevocably. Since language is often said to be what defines humans from other animals, a language innovation such as the printing press is surely one of the most significant inventions in our history.

What do YOU think is the greatest invention of all time? Why, is that so?The greatest inventions are often those that we use on a daily basis, yet don't notice that we use. I did a hub on the sewage system, but I'm fairly convinced that it isn't the most important invention of all time. So, I was...
