What do you think that is on most politicians' agenda?
I think that most politicians think that the number one concern is to stay in office.
The second thing that I think that is on most politicians' agenda is how to increase the net worth of the politician.
The third part that I think that would be on the politicians' agenda would be how to control the public and public opinion, through media, brain washing or other means.
I believe that the most important thing to most politicians is power. Everything else you mention follows having power over the people.
The concern of many politicians is to use their office as a career move. They do not see their office as serving and helping the public. The purpose of the political office, in their eyes, is to springboard to a higher office. The name of the game in politics, well, at least American politics, is to be a famous celebrity.
Yes, that is the way that many politicians view their office. Many politicians go into office to spread their fame. They use it as a means to an end. Many go on to become millionaires after they leave office. What resume is there to have while being in political office.
Mayors can become governors, governors can become presidents, presidents can become spokespersons, authors, and multimillionaire consultants. Politics is an assured way to become a millionaire and a celebrity. Many people enter politics because of its perks, they receive a fabulous pension and great healtcare. The world is opened to them in ways that is not opened to a lot of people, including celebrities.
Such cynicism! Probably warranted for many a politician. But I expect that this happens after they are elected. Before that, when perhaps young and still at college, they really did think of contributing towards making their society and the world at large a better place. Unfortunately, the hurly-burly and pragmatism of party politics quiickly pulls them in line and they join the 'what's in it for me' club.
There are exeptions. Here in Australia we have a party politics, but we also have independents. That is people who align with no particular party. They generally go for Senate tickets, and some of them do a real good job advocating what they believe is right.
Then again, there are the minor parties such as The Greens who know full well they will never gain power but are in politics because they DO actually believe they can make the world a better place.
So, in answer to your question, yes, a large majority are in it for their own sake and some fewer are actually in it to help others.
The answer to this question seems to depend on how long the politician has been in office.
When they are first elected, most politicians seem to have a genuine interest in representing the causes of their constituency. Foremost on their mind is to get things done.
When they come to the end of the first term and decided they want to continue, foremost on their minds seems to be re-election. If they are a Congressman or woman this pattern repeats itself every two years ad nauseum. Or, their scope of vision widens and they seek to be elected to a higher office. Still, their minds are mostly focused on being re-elected or elected to a higher office.
Along with the above, these same politicians think extensively about how to keep their donors happy. So, they lose sight of their constituency in order to retain the favor of their sugar daddies. If they are on the Right they look to folks like the Koch Brothers or Karl Rove. On the left they want to please George Soros and folks in Hollywood.
Perhaps as they near the end of their legislative lives (as many incumbents seem to be re-elected for life whether they have gotten anything done or not), they may actually begin thinking about their legacy and attempt to get something done.
Remaining in office as long as possible and becoming very wealthy.

Do you contend that politics is a game and that the average politician whether Republican orDemocrat cares nothing at all about his/her constituents but only his/her self-aggrandizement, celebrity, and next career move?

Politics in itself is good. It was basically created to give meaningful directions to an otherwise chaotic and multi-dimensional problems of our society. The politicians are the ones that make it look trashy and confusing to a majority of the people. Too much scandals/corruptions and too much...
