Why isn't there an accolade for best comments ever?

Hubpages wants us to be more active here as well as writing hubs. Imagine the amount of comments that would be made if Hubpages awarded us for comments. I like commenting but it takes away from the time to write hubs. Writing hubs makes money. Writing comments doesn't. Thank you for your input for this question!

I guess the biggest problem is how you would quantify "best" comments. And then Hubpages might wind up being flooded with people saying wacky or outrageous stuff in comments to try to get a "best comment" accolade. Soon, there would be more comments than content. Ok, that's an exaggeration, but...

I have seen some sites where you get "Karma Points" for being interactive on a site by leaving comments, asking and answering questions, and the like. The scores are separate from scores for whatever the primary purpose of the site is. That way, there's no "conflict of interest". Plus, it's sort of a bonus incentive for people to participate in a meaningful way other than writing articles. You get badges for certain milestone levels of participation. It's also a good way for readers to participate more actively even if they are not article writers as well.

I'd say HubPages could invite members to nominate comments for consideration for "best" and maybe have other members vote on it. One problem there, though, is that people frequently have multiple accounts and could nominate and vote for themselves.

@The Zen Mistress Thank you You pointed out the good and the bad of this situation. I forget that there are... these people, out there that would do these things. I was just looking for an incentive for new Hubbers to keep going to their first check

I know. Maybe I'm just in a cynical mood at the moment. wink  I didn't necessarily mean that I personally felt people would do this, just that maybe HubPages did. I'm new-ish, too, and I didn't realize there were these accolades for comments.

Zen Mistress we all learn as we go. What you said is fine and it added input to this issue. Thank you for your answers.

There are some accolades related to commenting. For the Q&A section there is the 'best answer' accolade, along with a few that track how many answers/questions you give. Plus there is also the insightful comments accolade which goes up by a number of levels. The activities I do, other than writing hubs, are mostly just personal interest. If a hub or a question catches my eye, I comment. The only real benefit to it is making yourself more visible in this community, so you should do it for fun, not necessarily revenue.

In terms of new accolades, though, I would love to see a '100 user hubscore' accolade for people who have reached the max at one point or another.

@ M.T. Dremer. I do comment for fun and enjoy commenting. I did not realize that Hubpages had all these accolades that you mentioned above. I thank you for your input on my question and I will be looking closer at this information.

That is interesting suzzy, and although they do have a few as relates to commenting, I would love to see a place in the actual comments where one can click to say either awesome comment or something along those lines. I always appreciate those who take the time to comment and give me feedback as relates to my hubs, and I love commenting on others' hubs, as I know they have done a lot of work to write and have their hub published, and plus to let them know I enjoyed reading their hub.

Oh, I meant to add that it would be a great addition to include such in the Annual Hubbie Awards ...Best Commenter!

Yes, I know I learn a lot too! They do have us as a certain level commenter with Level 8 being the highest.

This is a nice suggestion and would motivate hubbers to comment with more interest.
